Pluck of the Irish

Only fitting on this day that we celebrate Ireland rugby's hard-fought 17-13 win over a game Scotland squad in Dublin yesterday. The win on the final matchday of the 2024 Six Nations gave the Irish back to back titles. The hard-luck Scots dropped all the way to fourth in the table.

So if you have occasion today, and I suspect you do, tip one back in honor of the lads in green.

Sorry, Mark. Auburn is clicking. Gamecocks found out as well.

This is probably a needle scratch across the dipshittery album, but here goes: the Atlantic cover story this month is about Jews in America. Premise is that extended period of comfort and acceptance is over. Right-wing bigotry and stereotypic tropes risen to surface; portion of left-wing now sees Israel and by extension Jews in general as privileged oppressors and controllers in wake of Gaza smackdown.

I think several in the audience are Jewish, and all of you travel in more populous, diverse circles than me. Any of you experience or see more anti-semitic behavior than previously? I don't doubt reports of increased instances of targeting Jews, but wonder if various groups and media are ginning up levels of hatred and controversy. I'm legit curious.

i recommend without reservation the pablo torre finds out episode with oscar schmidt. pablo attempts to make the case that schmidt is the best player ever to have not played in the nba and the most underrated basketball player of all time. schmidt himself is a joy. it's the good stuff.

Gonna push back a bit. Schmidt basically says American players are shit which is very common and hip to say these days. It’s also incorrect. Are the top international players great? Yes. Do we still have the best basketball players in the world by a wide margin? Yes. Also, Oscar Schmidt couldn’t guard me at my peak so he can fuck off shitting on American basketball

i don't think he was shitting on american basketball - certainly not today's american basketball, just saying that he could've competed in the nba in his era, which was three decades ago. and you're right about his defense - one of the great parts of the episode was him talking about how his coach would give him chocolates for rebounding and playing defense because all he wanted to do was score. and score he could.

i think espn does a great job with college hoops, and i like their experts. but jay williams, jay bilas, and seth greenberg all picked the top overall seed to win the tournament and only one of them had a seed higher than 3 in the elite eight. college hoops is wide the fuck open. be brave, men!

We can disagree. I find his tone disrespectful to the current American game. I watched him. Larry Bird would’ve ate his fucking lunch.

He won the Pan Am games. In the words of Derrick Coleman- whoopty fucking do.

i believe it was "whoopty damn do". but i take your point.

Reporting in to confirm that tuba skinny is in fact skinny, and rides to gigs on a bike with a tuba in a backpack.

Also, they can resurrect a cancelled parade in a jiffy if the weather changes. I walked over to frenchmen st and the Italian parade was in full effect. Neat, but sorta messed with my plans.

Rob is correct- and Derrick Coleman would’ve destroyed Oscar Schmidt. Shit- Lawrence Moten would’ve given him a game.
