It's a proud day here in the combined G:TB/BMRN newsroom, as one of our own just made a tiny bit of history. (By 'our own', I obviously mean 'someone we've heard of and have fond feelings toward'.)
Earl Boykins, all 5'5" (allegedly) of him, just signed a 1-year, $3.5m contract to play for Vitus Bologna in the Italian league. The deal makes the diminutive stud (man, if I had a nickel for every time one of my lady friends called me that) the highest-paid player in the Italian league. Setting aside the fact that Boykins' new team appears to be named for Vitas Gerulaitis' manparts, this is huge news in the world of the not-so-huge.

shawn kemp just signed with an italian team, too. he's keeping tabs on his son, earl.
I love Earl. So much so that his last name is my password for most things, including blogger.
My Dad and I first saw him the summer before he went off to EMU. He was playing in the AAU Nationals around here and happened to play the third game of an evening bill that included Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Danny Fortson and Antawn Jamison. Boykins played in the final game against Lorenzen Wright's #1 ranked Memphis team.
Boykins came out in the layup lines looking like a ballboy and ended up scoring 40 points and destroying the Memphis guards with his defensive pressure in the backcourt. My Dad and I left the gym as huge fans and have followed his career intently ever since.
Wait until Mark sees the new blog he just started...
awesome, mark. awesome. i love him, too - for obvious reasons.
Boykins has a blog? Awesome. Unfortunately, it will probably be filled with a bunch of christian bs. He's pretty devout from what I remember.
For those of you scoring at home (or those of you who are alone), that's Rob's second gratuitous reference to Vitas Gerulaitis this summer.
I'm still waiting for a MaliVai Washington or Fred Stolle reference.
nice attention to detail, sir. though this one was slightly less gratuitous. slightly.
Pat Cash wants to know what the hell he has to do to get some pub around here...
oh, man. i loved pat cash. i'll work him in soon, promise.
nice to see the big lead on this story a mere 4 hours after gtb, which had it a mere 18 hours after espn. douchewhistles.
