Someone send Nena an invoice for $24,750

The good people of Concord, NH have apparently lost their mind, or at the very least, need to find more important things to worry about.
CONCORD – People will want to hold onto their balloons if the Senate agrees with a House vote yesterday to ban balloon releases. By a vote of 215 to 111, the House approved a bill that treats balloon releases as a form of littering. HB 62 originally barred the release of two dozen or more lighter-than-air balloons. The version that passed yesterday could bring a $250 fine for even a single balloon let loose. A second offense could bring a $500 fine. The bill specifically exempts hot air balloons, weather balloons and others released as part of scientific research. The bill does not penalize accidental releases.
That last line made me laugh quite a bit. Are you penalized for premature releases?

Great comeback by the Cuse last night, aided by some of the worst team free throw shooting I have ever seen, but alas, it was not enough. Who's excited to have Air Force as the 2007 NIT Champ?

I'm reticent to admit I watched large parts of each NIT game last night but they both ended up being very well played and competitive games. Certainly more entertaining than watching Dalls toy with Cleveland.

And tonight, Tennessee and Texas A&M can either clinch the G:TB Bracket Challenge for me, or put me on the cusp of owing all these other donkeys lunch.

And yes, I am "GTB" for the rest of the week...

You cannot lose the bet at this point. Not gonna happen.

And GTB, shouldn't you have a colon? (There's a joke somewhere in there about Crohn's disease or something, but frankly, it's too gross even to think about.)

VH1 Classic, an American cable television station, ran a charity event for Hurricane Katrina relief in 2006. Viewers who made donations were allowed to choose which music videos the station would play. One viewer donated $35,000 for the right to program an entire hour and requested continuous play of Nena's "99 Luftballons" and "99 Red Balloons" videos for an entire hour. The station broadcasted the videos as requested from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. EST on March 26, 2006.

So it looks like Tubby is leaving Kentucky to take the job at, Minnesota? Ummm, okay. Anybody else think he wishes he took some crappy pro job a couple of years ago. I mean, he could've made a bunch more cash and still ended up at Minnesota once he was fired.

Oh yeah, apparently Tom Crean is rumored to be Tuby's replacement.

Which is a worse gig: New Mexico (Alford) or Minnesota (Tubby)? Speaking of the Minnesota job, don't you think Dan Monson regrets leaving Gonzaga for that shithole too?

Mark said...

I've always thought that about Monson. He didn't have the vision to realize what he could build in Spokane and ended up leaving for a program that got absolutely decimated by NCAA sanctions (Thanks, Clem). Meanwhile, Mark Few steps in and builds on what Monson started to create a WCC dynasty. BAD MOVE.

As for your question, I think it's New Mexico state. Sure, you cna be successful there but it's in fucking New Mexico and you're always gonna have to recruit a pretty steady diet of transfers and JUCOs. No way are you getting more than a couple of blue chip recruits per decade. There's more comp in the Big Ten but it's not as strong as it once was and there's room to build another consistent program within the conference. Plus, at least Minn. has some homegrown talent.

He's taking the regular New Mexico job, not the State gig, which is currently held by Hangtime star Reggie Theus.

Was it ten years ago already that Sam Jacobson and Bobby Jackson made Minny a high-profile program?

Mark said...

My bad. Same circumstances and conditions apply though, imo. BTW, did you catch the announcers talking about Hangtime during NMSU 1st rd. game last week? It was a very proud moment for Reggie, I'm sure.

Yes, it was ten years ago and you're forgetting the other 1st rd. pick off that team...John Thomas. Funny you mentioned that team as I was reminded of Sam Jacobson recently while watching a Lakers game. Don't think I'd thought of him since his rookie year.

Sam's wikipedia page is what I would call depressing...

His hobbies include pickup basketball games. Really? You're right, that is depressing.

I don't know how you did it, but you just posted the same comment at the same time here and at the 'House...

The Raiders signed Josh Booty to a contract this afternoon.

What year is this again?

I'm pretty amazing sometimes.

Well, you know what that means:

"Booty time, booty time across the U.S.A...It's booty time, booty time, heh, heh, heh..."

that's a highly disappointing first round of games, if only in terms of results. both maroon teams for which i was pulling lost heartbreakers. siu was seriously unlucky, and the refs really bent a&m over with that timing decision - not that the aggies would've won, but another second would made a big difference in terms of shot selection.

I just got a call from Billy Knight. He was curious as to whether I could work out a plan wherein he draft Aaron Gray and Josh McRoberts this year.

Suggestions?

T.J. said...

That A&M loss really hurts...fuck.

The Drizzle said...

It's kind of sad to watch IV get sent home after that, meanwhile either Aaron Gray or Lorenzo Mata will live on to haunt me for at least 2 more days.

Final 4 of Death:
Memphis
USC
Pitt
UNLV

Prepare.

That is a tough way for my participation to end in the Bracket Challenge. Looks like I finish 9-6, with 50 points. And color me very unimpressed with Greg Oden.
