Emergency Music Post: Rock 'n' Roll is Awesome!

I was dicking around on the Bluesky last night while the Blue Jays were going all Hitchcock on the Mariners and stumbled upon one of the frequent post-bait questions one sees on socials. A user named Liz Ryerson said, "a poll idea that just popped into my head: since we've collectively been doing 90's nostalgia for awhile as a culture, what's your secret/stealth best 90's album? not something necessarily widely super critically beloved but is nonetheless great and defining for you?"

To which I responded with Sugar's "Copper Blue" and posted this video:

Woke up this morning and made breakfast - my standard fare: plain Greek yogurt with berries, granola, and honey, cup of coffee, glass of water. Checked in on Bluesky again to find that a user named nooneofcons.bsky.social had replied to my post with this:

I clicked through the link to learn that a) Sugar has reunited, b) they're planning to tour, and c) they've released a new single entitled "House of Dead Memories":

Did I...post that into existence? What an exciting turn of events!

  3. we got any catholics up in here? would love to better understand the significance of pope leo's rumored disbanding of opus dei, beyond the fact that it'll give dan brown rich fodder for another book.

  4. Who can we get Rob to bring back next? Last month's excellent CVB show has me thinking we could be in a golden era of age 60-something rock bands.

  7. Ending a long (but good week) in Kansas City. My employer could never get me to move here but I don’t mind a few visits a year. Good beer. Good BBQ. That’s enough for me for a few days.

  8. My son in Cincinnati has a good friend who is devoutly catholic. The friend recently asked our non-religious kid "how are you a good person?" He can't fathom goodness that isn't linked to religion.

  10. No expert on Catholicism here, but my understanding is that Opus Dei is being non-centralized, split into 3 entities now, I think, where no longer will they operate pretty much on their own, with what's become a lot of power. They're a really conservative, kind of sectarian group, with in the tradition (which I imagine y'all know), and have a lot of folks in influential positions in the US (Supreme justices, politicians, corp big-wigs, etc. - again, I imagine you know this), and so, with the decentralizing, that was Pope Francis' idea and Leo is following through on it, this takes a bunch of wind out of their sails. One high-up person inside on promise of anonymity is quoted as saying "it will never be the same" and some say this will mark the end of this group's functioning as a "church within the church."

We're thinking Ohtani might be the greatest baseball player in history. Anyone else - agree or disagree? If not, who is?
