Gheorghle: The Dumbest Quiz Game

Several of your favorite Gheorghies (and Dave) are in a group chat solely dedicated to sharing daily results of various online quiz games we complete. We do the Wordle, the Worldle, Connections, The New York Times mini crossword, Bandle, and Framed nearly every day. Some folks add the Quordle and Strands. It's a lot.

We're also continually scouring the interwebs for new games to play. I do Immaculate Grid for baseball, even though most days it reminds me how much I've forgotten about trivia I once knew about ballplayers. Dooger shared some really dumb one about checking boxes the other day. There will be more.

In addition to participating in brain gaming, I'm quite prone to expressing myself in absurdly random ways when I'm alone. Sometimes just in my head, and sometimes aloud. Today, we're combining the two things for your amusement and participation.

In the spirit of collective mental exercise combined with whimsy, I'm pleased today to introduce The Gheorghle. The concept is simple. I list a handful of thoughts that pop into my head or things that come out of my mouth, and you have to guess the context. Points are given completely subjectively by me for accuracy and comedic value, not necessarily in that order. I'll reveal the actual inspirations for the phrases at some point, via some means.

Herewith The Gheorghle #1:

1. Fuck, Fergie Jenkins is Canadian!
2. Merde
3. Golf balls!
4. PEPE LE PEW!
5. Who are these new frens?

Answer in the comments. Or in the group chat. And enjoy!

Watching France in the Euro Cup from your hotel bed in Montréal whilst fooling around with Mrs. Squirrel (frenching and balls play)?

okay, okay. nice start. some accuracy. decent comedy. could be better.

I'll give it a go:

1. Brief stint in Boston combines rob's affections for Red Sox and poutine
2. French-Canadian word uttered repeatedly during Uruguay-US match
3. Only sports balls USMNT care about after crashing out of Copa
4. Trump's favorite cartoon, as skunk regularly grabs p*ssy and never reprimanded
5. New walking path or new dog park with JoJo

I’m assuming you were playing immaculate grid looking for Canadian 10 game winners forgetting about Fergie Jenkins. While looking at the potential correct responses you also forgot Le Grande Orange which caused you to curse yourself. Shit and Grande of course made you think of Nachos Bellgrande which reminded you of Sam Randolph’s golf bag at the 1986 open championship. https://www.reddit.com/r/golf/comments/152jja2/1986_open_championship_i_wonder_if_sam_randolph/

Of course the open championship reminded you of Jean Van de Velde hitting multiple golf balls into the water at Carnoustie. A Frenchman that stinks at golf made you think of another stinky Frenchman, Pepe Le Pew. Pepe’s continental stink reminded you of meeting Dave all those years ago and wondering how you became frens.

there was a clue embedded in the text, and marls ran with it. the fergie jenkins quote is indeed a product of me forgetting that he was canadian and fucking up the immaculate grid. obx dave is close with a couple of his guesses.

pour some out for kemba walker's career. hung 'em up today.

Mark said...

Kemba Walker has officially retired. Damn shame he had to spend most of his healthy prime playing for Charlotte.

austria/turkiye was a spectacular soccer match.

Mark said...

That last second save in Turkiye-Austria has to be one of the greatest saves I've ever seen, all things considered.

Mark said...

And yes it was Rob. Highly entertaining. Fast paced, competitive and physical as hell.

rob said...

that save was outrageous, especially given the stakes and timing.

I don't think I understand how these games work and riffed off of each ref individually. Is it a series of connected clues leading to one conclusion or solution? Seems like further confirmation that I have zero idea what goes on around me and what the kids are into.

you approached it how i intended it, dave, but i also appreciate creativity.

Played tennis this morning for an hour and beginning at 8:15 thinking I’d beat the heat. I’m an idiot and severely dehydrated at this point. It’s so fucking humid in Florida right now.

Take it easy, Mark!

Maybe one of these days you’ll tell us?

the answers (drum roll please):

1. marls was correct. i couldn't think of a canadian pitcher and as soon as i guessed incorrectly i remembered that fergie was a canuck.
2. whit was sorta correct. i was watching the euros and bummed that france won over belgium.
3. nobody was close. my wife was at costco and asked me if i needed anything, and i knew i did, but couldn't remember what. and then it came to me, too late.
4. more euros-related content. portugese defender pepe made a terrible play that nearly cost his team the game against slovenia, and i made a terrible dad joke in my own head.
5. i took a picture of my dog, who was very curiously eyeing a bunch of baby chickens in a coop at a house near us. and sent those words as the caption to my family.

My workday was "done" at about noon and then all hell broke loose. Including, but not limited to, a key member of our organization being immediately shown the door this afternoon. I have no details but it's certainly made for an interesting beginning to my holiday weekend.

Does anyone else think that "the outer perimeter of [the President's] official responsibility" sounds kinda like an emanation from a penumbra?

GTB is one of the few places these days that makes me google words

Professor G. Truck said...

i'll do it for you:

words
1.
a single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone) to form a sentence and typically shown with a space on either side when written or printed.
