This Week in Wrenball: As You Wish

As Tony Shaver's band of merry men find themselves mired in the fire swamp of a promising season turned into an Asian land war, close observers of the program blame a combination of early-season injuries and a crisis of confidence.  Tonight's contest against Division III Wesley (or, as they're known more familiarly, Dread Pirate Roberts) may well be an opportunity for the reeling Wrens to take a baby step in the right direction.

W&M comes off a much-needed 12-day layoff nursing a 1-8 record and wounds associated with a pair of 'to the pain' whippings at the hands of Richmond and Georgia State. It says something (and not something good) about the Tribe's season that the early media notes for tonight's game focus on W&M's free-throw shooting acumen - W&M is 3rd in the CAA and 64th in the nation with a 72.6% success rate. Soon, the SID will be handing out participation medals and halftime snacks. Anybody want a peanut?

The Tribe follows up tonight's game with a trio of out of conference tilts, heading to Columbia, MO to take on Missouri before coming home to face a tough Iona squad and traveling to take on Miami (OH) before New Year's Day.  Think they'll head into conference play in January on an upswing? It'll take a miracle.

In other CAA news, this week's CAA Bloggers poll finds VCU consolidating its hold on first place after an impressive home win over Richmond. Let it be known that G:TB was the first blog to give the Rams the nod for the top spot.

at barbership this morning getting top hairs taken care of. when the time came to take off my apron i motioned to get up. tammy, a danimal hair virgin but grandmother of 5 says, "hold on sweety let me blow you first and get some powder on you". No paraphrasing there. It should be noted I am currently in Florida and not Seoul, South Korea.

  4. I should have known my first wife was no good the minute she said that she thought The Princess Bride was stupid. So early on with zwoman I asked her if she liked The Princess Bride and she said "Of course, what's not to like?" Not a bad evaluational metric.

I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that G:TB doesn't give a first place vote to G[h]eorg[h]e Mason.

And on a related note, my secretary only comes into my office immediately after I've farted. It's uncanny. I explained that I share a vent with the men's room. I don't think she bought it.

  7. I mentioned this is the last thread but figured it might be missed by Igor. The Cocoa Village you spoke of, is about 20 minutes from my house. I go out drinking there (lots if bars all with walking distance) fairly regularly.

  8. Tribe better watch out, Binghamton has some pattycakes in their near future. Our lads could be getting closer to rock bottom.

Meanwhile, it's amusing that two other members of the Forgotten Five join us down in the depths. Army's at 329 and The Citadel is at 333. Keep an eye on Northwestern, though. Could be down to the Forgotten Four...

  9. Mark, I wondered whether you were close. Space Coast newspaper made me think you might be nearby.

Look for Lt. Mudduck and Double Dibbs on a sidewalk near you.

  11. Very close, in fact. The good old, Space Coast. Not to be confused with Space Ghost.

  18. mf doom? or a reference to the old space ghost cartoon?

and zman, the same thing always happens to me at work. NO ONE ever comes down to my out of the way classroom to visit, unless i fart. in fact, i think people might actually be attracted by farts, which is why this phenomenon is so common.

  19. and t.j. those are some exact times for drunkards on the stumble . . . i am sure there's some method to that madness. wish i could be in attendance.

  20. As always, all times are approximate and subject to beer-induced changes...

  21. We're talking a lot of film.

Dave, it's a Space Ghost/Space Hos/MF Doom reference. When Mark and I connect we form like Voltron, nahmean? It's on some convoluted shit.

  22. My wife is not attracted by farts.

  23. The key element in setting the stumble times was including the expected time to transition from one bar to the next.

  24. if i were to hypothetically fart near my wife, she would gag and likely hurl, but only when she's pregnant.

  25. Jer, instead of changing "Ichiro" to "Darvish"...we might want to consider "Hurd".

  26. isn't she pretty much always pregnant, danimal?

  27. I thought that was Bucks' wife?

What's up with you Winchester boys and your super swimmers?

    must be the Sex Panther

  29. Teej, I think that's generous of you to credit Dan's and Buck's virility rather than blame the Winchester public school system's health class. Birds and the bees and all. Come on, guys, it's so simple. Maybe you need a refresher course. Heaaay.
