Smashing Atom

Like a smaller, more confused Paul Revere (not this Paul Revere), I keep warning of the threat posed by the Large Hadron Collider.  Last night, one of my Hadron Alert Posse (HAP) let me know that the December issue of Car and Driver featured the LHC.  Ever watchful, I went online today and found the following article description:

Smashing Atom: Ariel Atom V8 vs. Large Hadron Collider
Small, insanely fast, and superlight car takes on actual atoms.

Noteworthy, friends, is the fact that the description offers no hyperlink. The innocent explanation: Car and Driver wants to protect some of its content for subscribers. But you and I know better than to believe in the innocence of the LHC. I don't know what that foul boson-grubbing beast is up to, but we must maintain our vigilance. If we don't we might actually have to contemplate the stumbling start to William and Mary's hoops campaign. And nobody wants that.

  1. Interesting dance going on in downtown NYC today. Everybody is waiting for the ruling on the temporary injunction, but it really feel like if things don't go the protesters way that this is going to get ugly.

I would not want to we a property owner in lower Manhattan.

  4. To Marls' comment, as Bill the Butcher said in Gangs of New York, "we'll settle with a good dust up."

I'm ready to see the NYPD start concussing hippies.

  11. Speaking of which, I have tickets to see Adam Ant at a small venue down here in February. And I am way more fired up than I should be.

  12. Speaking of fired up, I'm really fired up for Florida-Ohio State tonight (though I think Florida loses). You should watch tonight, so you can see the best freshman guard in the country. No, not Austin Rivers...Bradley Beal.

Beal is a 6'4" guard from St. Louis who's super athletic, shoots the shit out of the ball, plays strong D and carried a near 4.0 in HS. Most scouts compare him to Eric Gordon or Ray Allen at the same age but agree that he's further developed than they were as freshman. Watch him now because I doubt he'll be at Florida for more than a year.

As for Austin Rivers, prepare to be annoyed. Don't get me wrong, he's good. I saw him play in HS a couple times (he's from Orlando and committed to Florida as a sophomore in HS)and he's going to struggle with the transition some. He's a two guard who needs the ball in his hands to be effective and he's a good, not great athlete. I'd compare him to a bigger, less athletic Monta Ellis. He'll be a very good college player but he's far from a sure thing as far as his pro prospects go.

  13. Mark, sent you a Beal highlight clip via the tweet machine. Also, we need to do a college hoops post in the next few weeks, as we did in the past.

  15. Rob, are you hearing about this baseball realignment that is supposedly imminent? What the friggin fuck?

  16. You mean the Astros heading to the AL West? Not a biggie, Igor.

Unless I'm missing some much bigger story...

  17. Teel, how you play a slate of games with a 15 team league? Therein lies the weirdness.

  18. Isn't the point to make sure each division now has 5 teams, instead of the traveshamockery that is a 4-team AL West and 6-team NL Central, as currently constituted?

  19. By the way, I intended to come home and write a longer post on Beal v. Rivers but work is, unfortunately, kicking my ass right now.

Also, on Rivers. You'll be annoyed because he's everything people hate about guys from Duke, and then some. Like the guard version of Christian Laettner.

  20. Should be interesting to see how Rutgers transfer Mike Rosario handles his 6th man role for Florida. He could be a monster off the bench as a combo guard.

  21. TJ - You know I'm in for a College Basketball post.

  22. heard about it, igor. i share 'teel''s opinion, with a side of, 'this might be interesting'.

  23. Rosario could do really well in that role. Like a college version of Jamal Crawford. Not that their games are that similar - just a gunner PG coming off the bench. Biggest Rutgers recruit in 20 years and he transfers.

If I live to be 70, I'm still going to be telling people that Rutgers should be good at basketball. And they'll be working on a 58 year tournament drought. Unless they expand the field to 256 by then.

  28. Rivers does indeed have a lot of growing to do...Duke is going to struggle against teams with quick guards.

  29. Perhaps it was bourbon served neat.

  30. Jerry - After losing like Rosario did for two years at Rutgers, wouldn't you transfer?

Beal has to get better off the dribble and Florida needs to run more offense for him.

really surprised (sarcasm) that tiger and scott will be playing against each other in 1st match. am typically apathetic about this event, especially as tiger is concerned, but do hope tiger wins that match handily and maybe gets stevey w to at least consider shutting the fuck up.

I'm currently using Wordpress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
