I think Pelfrey & Maine might object to the unproven part, but it's not a rock solid rotation. I'd rather have had Derek Lowe than more Ollie. The Mets are a 3rd place team, maybe 2nd.
The Mets would've made the playoffs if their pen didn't continually abort. They added some depth there this year. Most of their everyday lineup is intact, and Pelfrey and Maine are decent. If they can find some production at second base and get a corner OF with pop, they have a very good chance of getting into the playoffs.
The Yankees are on track to be the most amazing flop in recent memory.
My 2009 predictions: The A-Rod story won't fade, causing him to press and struggle and hear boos at home and on the road, Burnett will visit the DL before the All-Star break, Cano will continue to be lackadaisacal, the 36 year-old catcher signed through 2011 will show more signs of fading, the aging closer signed through 2010 will continue to show signs of fading, the 34 year-old shortstop will continue to show he's an overpaid .290 hitter with poor range, the 34 year-old DH will continue to deteriorate and the outfield will be weak offensively and defensively.
The popular notion that the Yankees have a lethal offense is way off. Tex will be a stud, but fragile A-Rod will be a wild card. In the other deal, the Knicks are receiving Chris Wilcox from the Thunder for Malik Rose and cash. Wilcox was part of the Tyson Chandler deal that was rescinded Wednesday.
I'm in for the new Fast and Furious with Mayhugh. But I'm still not sure where this "Fairfax" place is. I'm pretty sure that it is made up. I tried to type Fairfax and The U into my GPS and it didn't recognie either.

I remember reading that Roberson got signed because he looked really good (relatively speaking) in the early summer league games and both D'Antoni and Walsh decided they wanted to lock him up so they wouldn't lose him to somebody else. It was a total panic move, for sure, but i don't think you can place the blame for it solely on Walsh.

MASN (the Peter Angelos-owned sports channel around here) loves to show old Georgetown games. The other night there was a classic Gtown/Cuse game on, and I have to admit, I forgot how freaking ridiculous Ewing was in college. I was in awe watching him block shots, run the floor and ferociously dunk on anyone in his way (teammate or foe alike).
Ewing is actually kind of underrated as an NBA player nationally. The guy put up a lot of numbers and won a lot of games. None of it with a whole lot of help on the offensive end.
