I come here not to hate Derek Jeter, but to praise him on this day of his retirement announcement. And show this picture that perfectly captures his intangible grace, calmness, and winningness. (The hate is reserved for the media-industrial complex that built a very good player into a flawless immortal with gilded loins, perfect manners and unblemished awesomeness.)
As a Red Sox fan, I always respected and feared Jeter. The game will miss him, though I can't say that I'll be upset when #2 isn't in the Yankee lineup.
Tickets for Sept. 25, 2014 are already over $300 on StubHub. And his last game will be in ...gack... Fenway. Hopefully they can rejigger the schedule.
ReplyDeleteToo bad Jeter's ankle retired in 2012.
ReplyDeleteI think Jeter is an all-timer, but the victory tour fellating will be unbearable.
ReplyDeleteun fucking bearable
ReplyDeleteclarence, your friend can write 1000-word comment at sentence of dave but can't be bothered to post on gtb? fuckstick.
ReplyDeleteCautionary tale - a neighbor of ours is a family w/ 2 young ones. The wife was falling asleep at 11:30 PM last night when she barely heard some chirping. She woke up and investigated. She went downstairs to her kitchen and it was full of smoke. An electrical issue under her kitchen floor slowly started a pretty intense fire. They whisked their kids out of the house and called 911. Firefighters put it out, but the fire trashed much of the first floor. Family is now homeless and will be for a couple months.
ReplyDeleteThe message here is to check those fire alarm and CO2 batteries. Without those, my neighbors may have faced some serious/fatal consequences.
You know what will be unbearable? Hearing how "classy" Red Sox fans are for giving Jeter a standing O and doing the "Der-ek Jee-ter clap clap clap-clap-clap" chant in his final game.
ReplyDeleteI hoped TR's story would include a tangent about a giant yeti swooping in to save the family and extinguish the fire.
In other news, I'm scheduled to have surgery on Friday. Ha! And the surgeon was in Florida today with a flight back tomorrow morning. Ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteKings beat Knicks. Nice knowing you, Mike Woodson!
ReplyDeletehey gheorghies!
ReplyDeletebonus snowmageddon pub night out. thursday pub night is in jeopardy, however.
Getting up a 5 am to trudge in to work before the snow gets bad...not so awesome.
ReplyDeleteAll you snowed in folks, take a few minutes and watch the long version of the Heat-Warriors game. Everything an NBA game should be.
ReplyDelete14 inches of snow on the ground. 4+ more to come. panic in the streets of loudoun!
ReplyDeleteCould be worse Rob, you could be stuck in the Chicago suburbs trying to get home. So much for getting up for that 6:30AM flight back.
ReplyDeleteCan't complain though, last week spent a nice 5 days in the 80 degree weather in FLA. If you don't mind all the old fuckers Naples/Ft. Myers area has plenty of 2 for 1 drink deals. Nothing says family vacation like 2 for 1 drinks.
ReplyDeletesnow day, y'all
ReplyDeletesorry they're making you click your hooves, Marls
I wake up at 5 every day and commute 80 minutes, Marls. I don't want to hear you bitching about your 2-mile commute!
ReplyDeleteI am home in my basement, hiding from my kids. There is indeed a Yeti asleep in my guest bedroom/office (joke for one). We may have both overserved ourselves last night for no reason.
the shot that lebron hit to win that game was preposterous. and has anyone in history ever shot the step-back three better than steph curry? i think not. he's a wizard.
ReplyDeleteI hope we lose power so that I can justify my generator purchase.
ReplyDeleteRussia AND USA hockey games on this morning!
ReplyDeletejust realized that the golden gophers have a home hoops game next week while i'm in minny. gonna get to see my first live big ten game.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I hate cold weather I'm pretty jealous of all these snow days you guys are getting. I want to stay home and hang out on my couch and (possibly) have some drinks.
ReplyDeleteSteph Curry is amazing offensively. He had Mario Chalmers on skates throughout the 4th quarter last night.
that double crossover/old school 3-point play right before james' game-winner was so cool.
ReplyDeletei didn't appreciate how deep that tyler ennis shot was until i rewatched it this morning. damn.
ReplyDeleteThat move and finish was great, Rob. And the Tyler Ennis shot was absurd. Super deep and off balance. He squared his shoulders after he left the floor. Guessing TJ would've kissed him after the ball went through the net.
ReplyDeleteTeej would've given him a dollar.
ReplyDeleteI would've thought Squeaky would've added an approving comment on Rob's clever nod to The Smiths' "Panic." Rob, take a bow.
ReplyDeleteMark, snow days aren't that awesome. They are code for works from home day and if you fuck around, you a buried tomorrow so don't fuck around. The exception is Dave. Snow days for Dave means drinking heavily the night before and playing in the snow with the kids and the dog.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I have the wrong job.
not to rub it in marls, but last night was fantastic. got the call early about the snow day, but the gym was still open for adult basketball. played for an hour, and then went to the pub . . . on a wednesday! the regulars kept telling us we had the wrong day.
ReplyDeletethe way this is going, we're going to have another snow day tomorrow, and pete insists the pub will be open tonight, so things are looking good.
and yes i have been sledding with the kids and played with the dog in the snow. i own't complain until my nonexistent spring break . . .
