Linda Lovelace Sinks Ships

While we are awaiting Clarence's day 5 contribution to our celebration, I thought some of you (I'm looking at TR) might be interested in a news item that was likely lost in the Gheorghemas madness so despised by Dave.

On December 9, the Museum of Sex in New York opened an exhibition entitled, The Eve of Porn: Linda Lovelace.  While I doubt there is going to be Marls family outing to this one, the coverage by the fine newshounds at the NY Post did pique my interest.

Lovelace, the star of "Deep Throat", is credited with helping to bring pornography into the mainstream during the early 70's.  Celebrities were organizing parties to show the film and major media players like the New York Times and Roger Ebert were reviewing it.  During this "Porn Chic" period, a term coined by the New York Times, Lovelace became a household name who helped lay the foundation for the "adult entertainment" industry of today.  However, Lovelace's participation in the industry is not easily defined.  There are allegations that her early performances were forced under threats of violence. Additionally, by 1980, Lovelace had come to renounce her participation in the industry becoming an outspoken member of the anti-pornography movement.

For those of you unable to make it to Museum of Sex to take in the exhibition, there is also a soon to be released documentary entitled: Linda Lovelace's Loose Lips that includes portions of a final interview prior to her untimely death in 2002.

  9. Our fratre Elmo married a gal named Linda Lovelace about 10 years ago. True story. Lasted a couple of years. Sad fact.

  10. And Roger Ebert, while an icon in his industry and admirable in his fight against a debilitating disease before his untimely death earlier this year, had some perviness to him. Not surprising he was "reviewing" Deep Throat. Among other instances, his favorite move of 1972 was not The Godfather, Deliverance, or other greats, it was Last Tango in Paris. Which I liked okay, but it was basically 9 1/2 Weeks with Brando instead of Mickey Rourke. Ebert put that as one of the all time cinematic masterpieces. In the categories of "psychodrama" and "spank material."

Both Last Tango in Paris and Deep Throat have solid pubic shaving scenes, I must add.

  18. that 11:11 hey gheorghies was an epic feat of typing. went to "world of beer" for a fortieth at 4 PM and was overserved and forgot to eat.

  19. Nice story on Maurice. What's his twitter handle? The obvious one does not seem to be his.

  20. Watched first half of Clarett doc. Excellent. SI had a great deep-dive article on Clarett a year ago. He's playing rugby nowadays and seems to have his life in order.

  21. last night at a dinner party, a neighbor of mine urgently and seriously implored me to implement a homeowners association policy banning drones from flying into neighborhood airspace. it likely won't surprise you to learn that this woman is batshit crazy.

  32. The starter on my car sit the bed today. So my afternoon trip to the gym and the grocery store turned in to a four hour odyssey (I did get my workout in). Pretty shitty Sunday afternoon/evening. On the other hand, my wife was just called out because some lady was shot in the neck by her boyfriend. So, things could be worse for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Shit the bed. I don't thinking sitting the bed is bad. I cold be wrong though.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Tough luck Mark, especially for the lady with the bullet in her neck. I was just out to lock up my chickens and didn't see the radio flyer wagon in my path. My shins found it though, and I ended up splayed across the wagon in most undignified fashion . I've got a pretty good buzz right now but this will definitely hurt in the morning.

  37. Thanks to Jamaal Charles's 59 points, I may be in the finals for the league I'm in. Calvin Johnson just can't score 44 points and I'll knock off the two seed.

  42. So the Teej is going to Gheorghetown? I guess that's better than Jonestown.

The Cuse fan in you must be conflicted....

  43. Mark has assured me that because it is post-graduate work that I am fine still rooting for Cuse.

  45. What's this about Teedgetown?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Apparently, the little baby Teejus is going to live at Partick Ewing's house in order to brush up on his corporate double speak and improve his family's cash position in the long term, notwitstanding the short term outlay. Moose out front should have told ya.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm going to do a grad school program at Gheorghetown starting in mid-January.

It won't alter the production of "Zman and the Teej" episodes though - producer Marls is working around my schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hopefully you'll secure an interview with John Thompson the Elder.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I look forward to Teejus making friends with Roy Hibbert this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'd like to see Teedge in a Boubacar Aw or Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje jersey. Maybe Ya-Ya Dia.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The only jersey that makes any sense is the Jahidi White jersey, so that he can walk around in a shirt that restates the obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'd like to hear an interview with Piney The Elder. Or Piney The Younger. Whatever it takes.

  53. I'm working on getting a G:TB remake of St. Elmo's Fire greenlighted.

  55. I watched two of their games at the Battle 4 Atlantis over Thanksgiving weekend. Which is the only reason I've kept up with them. Fun team to watch. Much like some early Jay Wright Nova teams. Spread the floor with shooters and ball handlers.

  56. If anybody is looking for a last minute Gheorghemas gifts for me, a Boubacar Aw jersey will do nicely.

  57. New post up. Why now? I can't answer that.
