Big Super Happy Fun Fun Reader Submission
We follow up rob's excellent longform piece with some traditional frivolous Friday filler, this time courtesy of a Mayhugh link submission. (Anyone else picturing Mayhugh jamming the link in the bowl? Just me?) Anyhoo, it seems the Brawny Barrister has realized what a goldmine Buzzfeed can be, and sent along this list of "25 Bootleg Products That Are Better Than The Real Thing". The list is awl-inducing, but personally, this one is my favorite:
The internet is such a glorious space I also found this Knight Rider-related YouTube clip, just for Greg:
Adding on to Clarence's comment from the last post. Joe Harris is indeed quite talented. I don't watch much UVA hoops. Not since my boy TJ Bannister left.
I did catch their near win at Miami and last night's 2nd half though. Impressed by Harris as he's much more than just a shooter. Also, I'm guessing he does quite well in Charlottesville based on his athletic preppy look.
i confess to have slept on preppy joe to date. he was impressive last night. as was uva's defensive game plan. they'll be a tough out in march with the way they defend - just like tony bennett's dad's teams were at wisky-gb and wisky.
I believe Harris is also the guy that chose UVA over Maryland, which sucks for Terps fans, because to echo the recent sentiments about Harris, he is good at the basketball.
Teej, the talking heads insist that once Kelly comes back, Duke will be world beaters. Same can be said for Zack Morris, Dylan McKay, and the Bad News Bears.
I love that golfers can just get pissed and walk off the course with no explanation. Would never fly in any other major sport. But it's totally cool in golf. Rich, entitled dickheads.
All this is correct. He didn't walk off the court. Your point is taken though. And, fwiw, Pippen was destroyed by the press for it. Don't see it happening to Rory. Not yet at least.
To mark's golf comment, Rory walking off was petulant and unprofessional. That said, the reason you can walk off mid round in golf and can't in any other sport is that Rory will now not get paid. If there was an appearance fee he will forfeit it and no other money headed his way. Unlike all other sports where you can suck all year and get paid, 99% of all pro golfers make zippy if they suck all year.
Also, Florida is playing Alabama in basketball today. Which is my excuse to remind you that I once beat an Anthony Grant lead team in intramural basketball when we were both at Florida.
as comprehensive a collapse as you'd ever want to see. textbook example of a team losing confidence. put a lot of this one on the coach - didn't do much to try to blunt jmu's momentum. more on the players, though. tons of really bad unforced turnovers in the second half. just awful.

ReplyDeleteDuke is terribly overrated, though. Let's not forget that.
ReplyDeleteTeej, the talking heads insist that once Kelly comes back, Duke will be world beaters. Same can be said for Zack Morris, Dylan McKay, and the Bad News Bears.
ReplyDeletea round of applause for working all of those references into a comment on Duke basketball...
ReplyDeleteDoes "big super happy fun fun" modify "reader" (i.e., Mayhugh) or "reader submission" (i.e., fake Knight Rider)?
ReplyDeleteRorrs not looking like a very good investment for Phil Knight at the moment. Walks off at 7 over on the 9th.

ReplyDeletezman, dealer's choice...
ReplyDeleteDidn't Scottie Pippen sorta walk off in overtime?
ReplyDeleteit was final play of game, against Knicks I believe. play was drawn up for Kukoc, Scottie stayed on the bench
ReplyDeleteAll this is correct. He didn't walk off the court. Your point is taken though. And, fwiw, Pippen was destroyed by the press for it. Don't see it happening to Rory. Not yet at least.
ReplyDeleteTechnically, Pippen refused to walk ONTO the court after the timeout.
ReplyDeleteAnd now Ambassador Rodman is walking with KJU.
ReplyDeleteSimmons spent 2-3 pages of his book defending Scottie in that incident, and I have to admit he convinced me.
ReplyDeleteSkip Bayless's comments on Rodman's North Korea visit should be promptly typed, printed out, and shoved up his ass.
name the all-time leading scorer in olympic basketball competition without looking at my twitter feed.
ReplyDeleteOscar Schmidt?
ReplyDeleteCheryl Miller?
ReplyDeleteArvydas Sabonis(sp?)
ReplyDeleteToni Kukoc?
ReplyDeleteIf we're talking both male and female I believe it's Teresa Edwards.
ReplyDeleteFrederic Weis.
ReplyDeletelooking for the male leader. nobody's there yet. he played in an ncaa championship game.
ReplyDeleteJordan.
ReplyDeleteCarmelo?
ReplyDeletelike carmelo, he only played a single season in college.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't take it anymore and looked it up. I would have NEVER guessed that. But it makes perfect sense now that I know it.
ReplyDeleteWait...based on the last two comments....is it the guy I should have a photo with but don't?
ReplyDeletenever would've guessed it, either, mark. randomly stumbled across it looking for something else earlier.
ReplyDeletei like the nastiness in marc gasol's game
ReplyDeleteshane battier is basketballing
ReplyDeleteRob, was my guess above correct?
ReplyDeletedon't know who you mean, i'm afraid

ReplyDeleteA valid point, Geoff.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Florida is playing Alabama in basketball today. Which is my excuse to remind you that I once beat an Anthony Grant lead team in intramural basketball when we were both at Florida.
How about VCU beating up Butler this afternoon?
ReplyDeleteButler's guards aren't great ball handlers. This is obviously a problem against VCU's press.
ReplyDeleteODU beat Northeastern??
ReplyDeleteTheir parting gift to the CAA
ReplyDeletethe diversity of body types at great wolf lodge is spectacular. it's a veritable human zoo.
ReplyDeleteTribe cagers taking it to the JMUsters so far.
ReplyDeleteTribe game on Comcast. Sounds like Al Koken and Feinstein are calling it from the Burg. Rob, you're in the area and not at this game?
ReplyDeleteTypical tribe. Oooof.
ReplyDeleteugh

ReplyDeleteI'd like Miami past the first weekend for 500, Alex.
ReplyDeleteMiami is good. And holy shit did Ryan Kelly lend some credence to the whole "Duke is much better with Ryan Kelly theory". He was...impressive.
ReplyDeleteHi, Gheorghies!!
