It's not just an ORF theme any more - it's a filler post!
At 8:05 pm EST tonight in San Francisco, Logan Webb will throw out the first pitch of the 2026 Major League Baseball season. As noted by the sage Marls, it's not Opening Day, at least not for teams that matter - that's tomorrow, when the schedule includes 11 games, but it's a harbinger and a dawn at the same time.

our first baseball tidbit of the day: keith hernandez still receives $5,000/year in residuals for the episode of seinfeld he guest-starred in.
ReplyDeletesounds great. next time i crack up a car near brisbane, i know who to call.
ReplyDeleteWCSABBGD?
ReplyDeleteFuck baseball.
ReplyDeleteEasy, Mark.
ReplyDeleteFor those wondering, my acronym was What Car Should a Brisbane Bound Gheorghie Demolish? Naturally.
As usual I agree with Mark. Are we talking Brisbane Australia or California?
ReplyDeleteCome on. Mark likes the Cardinals. Granted, they're predicted to win only 2 more games than 69 this year, but still. Baseball is fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd Z... come root for the Mets. It's really easy unless you're into things like "titles" and "sports not letting you down"...
I've been threatening to do this for a few years, but this may the year I come out as an NL Central fan. Who among us doesn't appreciate a morass of mediocrity?
ReplyDeleteWatch the NL East for such mediocrity this year... division winner might have no more than 91-92 wins.
ReplyDeleteembarrassment of sporting riches tomorrow: 11 mlb games, 10 men's world cup qualifying playoff matches, and the resumption of the ncaa men's tournament. if one were inclined, they could watch meaningful action from 1:00 pm to after 1:00 am est.
ReplyDeleterob, what's most compelling World Cup qualifier, in your opinion?
ReplyDeleteitaly are in danger of missing a third consecutive world cup, and they’re in a four-team knockout (one team survives) with northern ireland, wales, and bosnia herzegovina. they’re nominal favorites, but they’re also under a lot of pressure.
ReplyDeleteukraine are in a group with sweden, poland, and albania. they’d obviously be a great story.
those are probably the best stories.
Am bumfuzzled that Italy, a country with Cup title this century and where soccer matters, has missed the big draw a couple times and might again.
