Distraction

Lots to report on from our trip to Nashville, which lived up to the hype in terms of food, music, and revelry, and in my wife's case, profligate spending of money on clothes. Since I've got to actually do some work today, I'll share a video in honor of our friend Erin getting us kicked out of Tootsie's on Broadway

Here's hoping the law wins tomorrow, too.

  1. I am hopeful that the candidate out there acting like a loser will be beaten badly enough to take the race beyond the margin of fuckery.

A protracted fight about election results would be worse than what we've just endured.

  2. I'm going head in the sand for a while. I voted 2 weeks ago. I can't stand the blather. And I fear the worst. Ugh x 100000.

Wake me up when November ends, to misquote Billie Joe.

  3. Second Scott's sentiment. Also, eagerly await details on what gets you thrown out of a three-level honky tonk that's open until 3 am and that certainly sees more than its share of jinks hi and lo.

  4. Here's some distracting news from our 'hood --
The church my husband serves, Hilton Presbyterian Church in NN (HPC from here-on), is an open-affirming church of all persons. Has been for decades really. About 2 years ago, when Gov Youngkin was elected in VA, he issued policy guidelines for school divisions to adopt generally are NOT LGBTQ+ friendly (without going into specifics). While most Hampton Roads cities ignored him, NN flip-flopped and after first ignoring him, changed its mind and voted for them. BOO!! So, in light of this, plus generally wanting to show the community/'hood they're welcoming and a safe place, HPC bought a rainbow flag (slanted color rainbow, though, not the "official" gay pride flag with pink triangle, too), and across it says "YOU ARE LOVED" in big letters"). I'd share pic but I don't have capability.
Okay, so hangs it up on fence in front of church 2 years ago or so. About 6 months later, it's torn down. My hubs (Clark) buys a new one and puts it up. And says something in church worship about it, but nothing else - no public posts or anything. Several church folks tell him they'll buy new ones, etc. if it ever happens again. Nice.
Well, about 10 days ago, the flag is stolen on a Sat. night. Sun. morning Clark arrives and finds it gone. Well, he had a second one (because of what had happened the first time a while ago now), and he hangs it up. Well, the Wednesday night following (3 days later), between 6:15-7:30 pm, it's stolen again. So - Clark orders a new one. And decides to put up a HPC Facebook post and Insta post about it. I voiced what to say at home just off the cuff, and he liked it, so we basically wrote it, and he posted. Basically to say, look HPC loves everyone. Always be true. Even the person stealing the flags. HPC loves you all because God loves us first. And calls us to it. HPC loves y'all. All y'all. Period.
Well, the response from the 'hood and community has been unreal -- people commenting they'll buy 2-3 flags so the church has them. Church members giving money...it's something else! And youth from years ago even writing in about this church was a safe place for them so long ago, etc. etc. And then, youth members of the church now found one of the flags in a dumpster a couple blocks away, and the other flag mysteriously shows up at the church one morning outside.
So - what does all this mean? Our 'hood (Hilton Village, NN) is awesome! This church is awesome. The kids think they should paint the flag on the fence. But the 'hood is on national historic registry, so that might not fly. But it's all a good news story at this point.
And then here's the last piece -- on Sunday, the kids were out there to put up the newest one (because it was taken down again on this past Sat.), and these teens rode up on bikes and said to an adult with them (I quote), "why do y'all keep puttin' that shit up, I'm just goin' tear it down again." So, at this point, Clark walked outside. He engaged the teen (one rode away) in convo. And said, why are you against love, and the kid backed down ..."well, I didn't do it...it was someone I know..." -- Clark said, "well, what's the issue?" Kid -"a church shouldn't be supporting a political group - gay people." Clark, "Who told you that?" Kid - "An adult says that's not what church does." Clark - "We're saying we love everyone. There shouldn't be a problem with loving all people." Kid rode away -- We'll see. Flag was still there last night and through mid afternoon now. :-)

  6. This is heartwarming, Donna, about a church in my old stomping grounds. Also, expect a mild chastising from Rob because you didn't offer this tale as an actual post (post count!, say the curators).

  8. preach, donna. that's a great story. obx dave, it was a case of bounceratorial overreach if i've ever seen one. me and the missus were on the dance floor, as one is in nashville. our friend, who's team short, stood up on the bottom step of her barstool in order to better see the band. there was nobody behind her, as the table she occupied backed to a wall. the bouncer told her to sit down, which she did. and then she stood up again a few minutes later and got...bounced.

  9. here is a thing that is actually in the news. a dude took a wild squirrel into his house and made tiktoks with in. the local animal control seized the squirrel and euthanized it because rabies has been a thing in local squirrel populations. in turn, the maga morons seized on the squirrel as a cause celebre because big gummint and freedom and such.

but wait, there's more. turns out squirrel tik tok dude was using squirrel videos to drive traffic to his only fans account. WHERE HE WAS JERKING OFF WHILE THE SQUIRREL WATCHED!!!

    just the absolute dumbest timeline.

  16. Missus and I are headed on a midweek vacation on Weds. I’m presuming we won’t yet have a resolution during our time away but I still think there’s a 12% chance we return to a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Good luck all and buckle up.
