  1. i was a bit confused about how gordon hayward got a max deal, but this piece by zach lowe is a pretty terrific analysis:

  2. Zach Lowe is great - one of the few things I read on Grantland. And his solo podcast is informative and entertaining as well - hell, I even put up with Simmons' podcast when Lowe is the guest.

  3. kq posted something on facebook about how eating well makes you feel good and eating poorly makes you feel like shit. it's all starting to make sense to me now. i'm in the midst of a month-long festival of terrible eating and overdrinking. gonna need all of august to detox.

  4. Is Rob a member of the Scoobie Doobies?

  5. The Gordon Hayward deal confused the hell out of me. I read the headline and thought "Isn't he that shaggy-headed kid from Butler? How can he be worth a max del?" and it turns out that he is and probably isn't, respectively. He averages 16/5/5. That gets you a max deal?

  6. I too endorse all things Zach Lowe.

On the free agency topic, even I think $15M for Chandler Parsons is a bit aggressive. Was thinking more in the $10M per year range. Good for him though. Was a mid major recruit entering the summer before his senior year of HS.

Yet another reasons why big guys should go play for Billy Donovan. His track record developing big men for the NBA is unmatched.

  7. Rob is totally a Yogi Yahooey along with Dave and Clarence. Mark and Teej are Scoobie Doobies. I think that makes TR, mayself & Zman members of the Really Rottens.

Danimal, sign as a free agent as you see fit.

  8. as maybe a couple of you have seen on the facebook, I have spent the better part of last hour with mary lynn rajksub in the delta sky lounge at lax. mary lynn's character "chloe" from 24 is one my wife's and my favorite. we love her. she still sits next to me - we've been shooting the shit about everything under the sun. highlight of my trip. great girl.

  9. $250 is a bit more than I'd like to pay but there's a pretty good chance I will.

  12. Apparently that took place in downtown Orlando. Of course it did.

  13. Orlando has a downtown? What goes on there? Why would a company choose to be headquartered oin Orlando?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Other than Disney, Sea World, Universal?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think Disney, Sea World & Universal are all outside of "downtown" Orlando.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Disney's offices are in Burbank Ca & Lake Buena Vista, FL.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sea World's offices are in Orlando, but on Sea World Drive in the park well outside of downtown.

  18. NBC Universal's Headquarters are at 30 Rock.

  19. Orland appears to be attractive to lousy chain restaurants and and cheap airlines.

    Olive Garden
    Longhon Steakhouse
    Capital Grille
    Bahama Breeze
    Hard Rock Cafe
    Seasons 52

    AirTran

  20. Don't forget Senor Frog's.

  21. Disney, Sea World, and Universal are reasons to set up a business in Orlando, be it downtown or uptown or Downton or Byfleet.

  22. I refer to myself as "Mayself" too, Marls.

  23. Other celeb sightings today were Dog the Bounty Hunter and I am pretty sure Carmelo. They weren't together by the way. Ha ha. Lolz. I crack myself up. Also the black guy who heads up the spy unit that was the recent bomb, the Blacklist. In fact, he is on my flt to Orlando.
Those restaurants by the way are all owned and operated by one group who is obviously hq'd there....Darden restaurants....it's all one big family. Downtown Disney...I've never been really but drive through it on I4 a million times each year. It's pretty metropolitan, or seems to be. Lots of tall shiny buildings and traffic.

  24. I drank beers with TJ at Downtown Disney.

  25. Fun fact about Zach Lowe--he spent a year in Wburg--was in a PhD program in history before he came to his senses & went with basketball...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Clarence and I shut down a ESPN bar on a Monday night, if I remember correctly. There was a terrible 49ers/Cardinals game on the tele.

  27. this is an awesome ode to prince fielder's naked body.

  29. Downtown Orlando and Dowtown Disney are very different. And not located near one another. Downtown Orlando isn't actually awful. The rest of Orlando is though.

Some good dive bars and live music venues in downtown Orlando. The Social is one of the best small music venues around. They get tons of great acts of all genres there. The area of downtown Im speaking of is basically a 8-10 block area of Orange avenue and surrounding areas. So there you go, Marls.

  30. Speaking of Florida cities, I'm going to St. Petersburg for the weekend tomorrow. It's Tampa's more attractive, less slutty little sister.

  31. I've been to Darden's HQ in Orlando--they have test kitchens for all of those restaurants in the lobby

  32. hey gheorghies!

    mountain time . . .

  33. It's mountin' time!

Scenes cut from those early edition Fantastic Four comics...

  34. I know this has been covered by many others before, but Clarence's "clobberin' time" reference and manipulation into a pervy pun makes me think about this again ...

Can you imagine if your friend takes you into space in a home-made spaceship and you turn into an orange rock monster? And now you have orange rock junk? Can he even get an erection? Like, is his orange rock junk flexible enough to point upwards? I would be so pissed at my friend and his home-made spaceship. Meanwhile, that guy can now make his junk 3 feet long if he wants. Just a terrible outcome for Ben Grimm.
