Christoper Walken can do no wrong:

  1. So last week I recorded the Monty Python documentary segments that aired on IFC. (They were awesome.) Last night before bed I watched the episode on Life of Brian. They showed the part of the film with the sermon on the mount, and later they showed a clip from a talk show in 1979 where a bishop and another well-respected clergy type were hammering Cleese and Palin (in utter vain, and looking foolhardy trying) about their supposed mockery of the sermon on the mount.

And then this morning in church the Gospel was Matthew 5:3-12. The sermon on the mount, in honor of All Saint's Day today.

If God's up there, He has a good sense of humor. But the people in the pews around me as I chuckled audibly do not. I mean, how do you not think of "Blessed are the cheese-makers"?

  2. whitney was not the member of the gtb community i expected to talk about church.

  3. Wait, you were at church this morning?

    ReplyDelete
  4. in fairness, you could insert any other gtb contributor's name for whitney's in that sentence and it would be equally valid.

  5. Conversely, TJ is the GTBer most likely to frequent a Church's.

  6. Mark, J.J. getting the start in place of an (already) injured Vinsanity today. Just wanted to give you an alternative trainwreck to watch on this Bucs Bye Sunday.

  7. I am actually very pious.

If "pious" means "I like pies," of course.

  8. Nice embedding work. You're way more technically savvy than Rob.

  9. Nice defensive start for the Giants...

  11. eli's having an old school eli day.

  12. Don't know if you noticed TJ...but JJ has four 3s already. Unfortunately, Wince's injury has allowed Anthony Johnson back on the floor.

  13. Um, yeah, I missed that...but I have watched Kyle Orton go 5 of 8, for 2 yards.

  14. I just saw JJ play decent defense on two straight possessions...impressive.

  15. I've missed that but Ive been watching the Giants too and Rob's right...old school Eli, for sure. I believe he has 2 completions.

  16. He's improved dramatically as a defender. Unfortunately for him, this is as good as he's probably going to get as a defender. He's just too short and not nearly athletic enough.

  17. Yep, I've basically given up on that Giants/Eagles game already...it's going to take some fire and brimstone from someone at halftime to wake the Giants up.

  18. I've also caught several frames of the Motor City Open on ESPN.

  19. I'm going to predict a day of devastation in Philly. They blow this lead ... Somehow...

  22. Andrea Bargnani is killing the Magic from 3 right now. Their 25 point lead is down to six with 9 minutes left. I don't really know why but I can't stand the Raptors. Too many Euros I think...

    Oh yeah JJ has 25.

  23. Chris Bosh just got a little too testy with Dwight Howard. Seriously Chris? Dwight will fucking snap you in half.

  27. I'm obviously completely in the tank for Percy Harvin but good God he's fantastic. A pretty high number of first round picks from last year's draft are already impact players or contributors as rookies, and you could make the case that Harvin's been the best of all of them so far.

  28. now THIS is an exciting game.

  29. Green Bay has scored 17 unanswered points and the Vikings lead is only 24-20. And Lambeau is fucking loud. These fat mouth breathers want blood.

  35. i don't know if this assuages your concerns, but it's really my knowledge of british imperial fashion that is operative in this case

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ah yes, but of course. As we all know, C.C.'s look was originally imported from India during the British occupation in the latter half of the 19th century and became popular for military uniforms.
