I actually tuned in for a little college basketball last night. It was a real blow to the senses to hear Patrick and Vitale.
How do you give up a layup on an inbounds pass like that? K is a great coach, but he's gotta take some heat there. There were actually 2 guys open underneath. #2 on Duke wasn't guarding anybody after Henderson switched onto the perimeter player.
I also like this Al-Farukh character, but he's going to need to visit the name shop and choose again.
Rob...I got it more than half right. Singler had a nice scoring night but he shot 7-19 from the field. Henderson was better (9-17) but he also had 7 turnovers.
Sometimes its not just the big numbers that tell the story, little fella. Duke's offense was stagnant and struggled for most of the night because neither of their two main scorers could develop any consistent rhythm on offense.
As to Rob's point about Vitale and Patrick overdoing it about Duke's comeback, I think most people felt the same way. I yelled at my TV when Patrick tried to compare it to Duke's epic last minute comeback @ Maryland in 2001.
Vitale certainly was lapping at Coach K's jock all night long. I loved the shot of him and his assistants, followed by Dick talking about how great it is for the assistants to "soak in all that knowledge," as if it was magic spooge.
Dick also mentioned how great it was that Johnny Dawkins could serve as an assistant for so long before waiting for the perfect opportunity. I would wager that Johnny Dawkins has some flaws that scare ADs, which is why he was an assistant for a decade.
Greg Paulus hopes Wojo gets a job somewhere next year so he has something to do next year other than enter David Faustino look-alike contests.
That...is...awesome. A much better use of his time than working on his jumpshot.
In other college roundball news, anybody see that UGA fired Dennis Felton after Florida stomped the dogs by 30+ in Gainesville last night? Felton should FedEx a fresh bag of shit directly to Jim Harrick for destroying that program.
I have no idea what is/was wrong with Dawkins. My convoluted point was that Dickie V made it seem like sitting as an assistant coach next to Coack K is the best thing going.
Dawkins was a high profile collegiate and a point guard for many years in the NBA. If he needed 10 years as a high profile assistant to get a gig, that means the system is still racist or he's not that impressive. Think of all the turnover in the top conferences over the last 5+ years. Amaker, Dawkins' old backcourt partner, has been coaching for quite a long time, while Dawkins was showing Chris Collins the right way to make Coach K's lattes.
The shittiness of the SEC is the only way a very average (and extremely soft) Gator team is making the tourney this year.
And RhymO, I'd have to agree with you on Dawkins now that your point is clearer. A decade seems like a long time to sit on the bench as an assistant, even behind the second coming himself.
You could do like Chuck Swenson and leave for a head coaching job at a CAA school, set records for futility and dwarfishness (they go hand in hand), and retreat to Coach K's bench after a while.

I thought Nelson would be a good NBA player (not an All-Star) but I definitely lost a little faith in him the last couple of years. I once described his ceiling to Greg as "a poor man's Tim Hardaway". I think that's pretty close at this point.
Len Elmore just attributed Seton Hall's 1989 Final Four appearance to local recruiting by naming 4 players -- 2 of whom weren't on the team in 1989 and 1 of whom is from North Carolina.
