Potraits

zdaughter enjoys making art, especially painting.  This is her fifth year of art camp so she comes home every day with new pieces.  Our home gallery includes a paper-mâché hippopotamus head, a drip-painted statue of a rabbit, a picture of a watermelon pressed onto paper using a styrofoam block, and many many canvases.  She likes landscapes and seascapes but I think her best work is her portraits.

Here are two self-portraits.

She has become a major Teedge fan ever since she saw photos of his cats with wine.  She calls him The Cat Wine Guy and will tell me "text this photo to The Cat Wine Guy."  Here's her portrait of him.

Alright, maybe not.  But that's a couch potato so it could be Teedge.

Here's her portrait of TR:

Alright, maybe not.  It's a deep pull from We Bare Bears but it could be TR if you watch the episode.

Here are portraits of zcats.

The one on the right was rushed so she's going to do another this coming week.  She also says the cat on the right is harder to paint because she's all one color.  We'll see what happens.

Here's one of me.

She says it looks better this way.

Again, maybe not.  That's Spider-Man but I'm a superhero for shlepping her to and from art camp all summer.

And my favorite portrait of the summer is the one of rob.

No joking here, that's our man squirrel.  Note the slightly angry camber of his eyebrows and the tuft of gray on top of his head and peppered into his chest hair.  Spot on.

Please feel free to request a portrait.  Every morning while I'm getting her ready for camp she says "what should I paint" and no matter what I suggest she says "that's boring" or "that's lame" so she needs inspiration from outside the house.

  1. Z daughter needs to take a go at portrait of one of our dogs.

In other news, I had a great summer afternoon. Hung by the pool and listened to good music whilst cooking steaks- NY strips for dinner and skirt steak for tacos in a day or two and added smoked red potatoes with red onions and cheese in the skillet.

  5. red sox drafted a pitcher named kyler witherspoon in the first round of the mlb draft. he went to fletcher high school in the jacksonville area. same school my nephew and nieces. my youngest niece and her fiancée were on the school’s baseball coaching staff for a few years - they coached him. pretty neat.

  6. My wife bought me a wagyu strip steak for Father’s Day. Pulled it out of the freezer tonight and reverse seared it. Holy shit it was good. I probably need to lay off beef for a minute- for my arteries sake.

Also- downloaded NCAA 26 today. Not gonna talk to my family for a number of weeks.

  7. Zdaughter is talented!

Phones are hard to use at OBFT. Whitney's comment is fairly accurate. I managed one comment on the prior post from the bar at Tortugas, but that was only because I was on the end and there was a lull in conversations that I could follow. There are usually 3-4 going at once, often with one of those involving Squirrel going around the horn with invasive survey style questions (eg. "have you ever done heroin?")

  12. Boehly interestingly chose to (1) wear his new sneakers and (2) go with dap instead of a handshake like DJ Trump.

  13. I haven't watched the clip with sound yet, but for some reason bowley seemed more likable than usual in that clip. Not sure why.

  14. Even Genghis Khan would seem more likable than usual if he stood next to Trump.

  16. my kid landed at dca at 530. her plane has been at the gate since that time but unable to disembark because they can’t hook the jetway up in a lightning storm. and the new dca setup means a fella can’t get a beer without clearing security. this is suboptimal.
