kicking it in the bar of the historic summit inn on the outskirts of uniontown, pa. serena on the tube, buffs to follow. fallingwater tomorrow. our first weekend away as empty nesters.
Big doings in Norfolk last night as ODU knocked off Va Tech. Lots of fun tailgating and then hosting folks to watch. And then students burned things and someone robbed the Tech locker room during the game. Stay classy, ODU.
this is what i wrote about fallingwater when i visited:
Fallingwater makes miraculous use of steel-reinforced concrete, which I just learned all about in the highly entertaining book Stuff Matters: Exploring the Marvelous Materials that Shape Our Man-Made World, and while I could appreciate the aesthetic charms of the place, mainly what kept running through my mind was: this would be an awesome place to have a party! but then I kept imagining drunk people leaning over the low balustrades and falling onto the wet slate below, and I questioned Frank Lloyd Wright's brilliance;
I just watched a big Florida win in a bar flooded with FSU fans (credit to them- they’ve showed out for tomorrow night) rooting their ass off against the Gators. Did I almost get in a fight? No. Was I tempting a fight? Yes. Go. Gators.
hit kentuck knob and polymath park today. trip has turned into a frank lloyd wright pilgrimage. which, kinda cool. decent amount of hiking offsets a decent amount of boozing. mingled with some laid-back country folks at a local distillery this afternoon. and if lsu covers -2.5 this evening, i clock a clean $300 on an impulsive parlay with tcu and kentucky.
In NH rustic resort (think Dirty Dancing) for a 3 day bender for huge wedding on KQ side of fam. Got into a fracas with a trumper last night at the after party rave cabin. Funcle represented.
i had precisely the same thought at fallingwater, dave. the balustrades hit me at roughly mid-thigh. would not be hard at all to imagine someone getting a bit tipsy and falling 30-60 feet.
i can deal with the first video-- because of the industrial setting-- but those guys in the "so lonely" video should be waterboarded.

Encountered fallingwater last week. Of course, down here in southeast Virginia we call it rain.
ReplyDeleteNice win by Florida, Mark

ReplyDeleteI like laid back country folks. There’s some I like more if we don’t even come near politics.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the parlay. Not looking promising at the moment. I’m sure coach kelleh and his famileh will come through for you.
Or maybe not. Brian Kelly’s L-face goes well with purple, though.
