Come all your rambling boys of pleasure, and ladies of easy leisure...
Man, the dumb shit that was done in the name of this song back in the early 90s. Glory days.
And this one's got the great Kirsty MacColl in it:
Drop your favorite Irish tunes into the post as you see fit.

ReplyDeleteteam gtb seems pretty fired up for the ncaa tournament
ReplyDeleteWhat tournament?
ReplyDelete2006. The late, great Irish-American David Patrick Flynn calls me.
ReplyDelete"Whitney, when's that Pogues show?"
"March 9th."
"PERFECT! Marguerite isn't getting induced until March 10th."
What could go wrong?? A ton, but Flynn and I had a monster night out seeing the Pogues 1st show on American soil after re-forming with Shane MacGowan. A killer set with all the greats dusted off, including the penultimate tune of the night, "Fairytale of New York," in which Shane and his duetmate slow danced to the instrumental close-out while faux snow fell from the rafters.
Show was near the end. One song left, as it turned out. I asked aloud, "What haven't they played?" I then answered my own question.
"We haven't heard Fiesta."
Moments later, they start in on it. I raced to the front of the venue to enter the mosh fray. Even at 35, I was too old for that. But it was fun, right up until the part where I slipped on the mud and fell flat on my back. I was almost certainly going to be trampled. Then some dude with very strong arms reached down, grabbed me, picked me up, and stood me upright. I thanked him profusely for a half-second until he was whisked away by the surging crowd.
Lots of life, nearly death, and Cap Noonan was there. He announced his presence by putting a cup of Jameson atop my head. Slainte.
Epilogue. That was Dave Flynn's last St. Patrick season. But the baby girl was born just fine on March 10th.
that guy packed a lot of livin' in.
ReplyDeleteSome people are just wired that way
ReplyDeleteHey! So re: the basketball coach vacancy now at WM...so, who exactly are they going to try to hire now? Someone who has been to the dance? Are they going to be able to do that?!
