It's a yearly tradition for me to both delay the start of Gheorghemas due to procrastination AND make it all about me, so here we are folks. Dig in for the most wonderful time of the year.
On the first day of Gheorghemas
Big Gheorghe gave to me
A fat guy in a sweet T
Happy Gheorghemas to you and yours...let's get this party started.
This is deserving of a Verne Lundquist "OH MY!" or an "IN YOUR LIFE!"
ReplyDeleteHope you're healing nicely TJ.
I wonder if Teej could’ve taken GHWB in a scooter race a month ago...
ReplyDeleteYou're looking pretty spry for a guy with a broken hip! I'm glad you're recovering quickly.
ReplyDeletePretty spry for a white guy
ReplyDeleteOy - your hip! Hope you're back in the ambulatory realm soon Teej.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest has been on one leg for a month. He takes crutches when he leaves home, but hops around the house on one leg. Kid is going crazy. So are his parents.
happy gheorghemas, gheorghies!
ReplyDeleteHappy Chanukah y'all!

Skins - Eagles. Not expecting much.
ReplyDeleteYou were wrong, Whit. You got Sanchized!
ReplyDeleteDear lord
ReplyDeleteAnd ESPN’s dramatic portrayal of Jason Witten as the ultimate tough guy is beyond preposterous. Stopped listening to the audio 2 minutes in.
ReplyDeleteSo. Skins need a QB. But won’t pick up Kap because Snyder is a Trumpie. If ever there were an elevator shaft with that little fucker’s name on it...
ReplyDeleteI haven't had the time to listen to new music recently, stupid job. So last night I hopped on http://www.largeheartedboy.com (great site for exploring new music and literature) to look at their recommendations for the new music releases over the last couple months. They do a very brief breakdown of what they think is good each week.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, looking through their recommendations and the list of albums released, I stumbled on the new Shatner Christmas album. It's as glorious as you would expect. Celebs helping Shatner are Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, Brad Paisley, Billy Gibbons and a ton more.
So when that annoying person wants to hear some Christmas music this year throw this album on. They'll thank you, unlikely, but at least it will make them hesitate to ask for more Christmas music.
Is there any category of music with a lower bar for quality than holiday music?
ReplyDeleteI really feel for anyone who works in an establishment that plays Christmas music non-stop. My mild-mannered bank teller confessed to me the other day that she got into her car after a day of jingly ear assault and cranked up Led Zeppelin.
You are wrong rootsy! Someday I will write a post about the Christmas music you should be listening to. There's a really good album that came out last month that's at least halfway up your alley. Foreshadowing!
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying it's all bad, just that quality is not a requirement. I've got a rotation of James Brown, John Fahey, Sharon Jones and John Denver and the Muppets that satiates most of my holiday listening requirements.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll be eagerly watching this space for suggestions on what I might find halfway up my alley!
Hootie and the Blowfish are back! Kicking off their 2019 tour in VA Beach! This is your Gmas present, gheorghies!
ReplyDeleteTemptations had some amazing Xmas renditions. Their version of Rudolph is my favorite Christmas song of all time (from a guy who is not crazy about the genre either).
ReplyDeleteThe Beach Boys xmas album is a banger
ReplyDeleteAs are the holiday works of Johnny Mathis and Andy Williams
how have we not done a GTB post on this?
To be clear, I have no interest in anything that is all or partially up Rootsy’s “alley.”
ReplyDeleteNo offense.
The Muppets version of "Little St. Nick" can't be topped.
ReplyDeleteGeez, TR. As far as I know you've never been near my alley, so you don't know what the hell you're talking about. And now you never will.
ReplyDeleteLindsey Graham pulls no punches today. It's almost as if he's going to run for a higher office sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteI guess he's probably not getting that AG job.
ReplyDeleteJD McPherson at the Black Cat this Thursday, $25 a ticket. DC folks, act like you know.
ReplyDeleteold 97s have a new christmas album out, which is essentially an old 97s album only with songs that have some sort of holiday theme, rather than an album of holiday standards. it's pretty good.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the odds Trump starts tweeting during the ceremony, and it’s caught on TV?
ReplyDeleteHe’ll want to shit-talk Russia and the Saudis for agreeing to cut oil production.
Paste has an article predicting Rock Hall outcomes.

GTB is nothing if not prompt. Where's Day 2?
Gheorghemas hit a lull.
ReplyDeleteW&M @ ODU. Dang it. Just realized it.
ReplyDeleteday 2 has been delayed by the man keeping me down in minneapolis. might get a chance to draft it tomorrow evening on my flight home. feel free to post interim gheorghemas filler.
