Reupping a Gheorghie tradition, because I love you peeps:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's that time of year again, yes, the day when Les Nessman rises from the ashes like Lazarus to be our Thanksgiving Day filler. Well, Les, Big Guy, Dr. Johnny Fever, and the whole gang at WKRP, in what is my favorite Thanksgiving episode of television ever.
This is either the fifth or sixth time we have used this iconic scene on Turkey Day, making it the most frequently recurring bit outside of Gheorghemas.
Which reminds me...time for the GTBers to get to work on those 12 glorious days.
Enjoy your day of gluttony and gridiron games, and perhaps revel us with some tales of holiday hi-jinx in the comments section.
Another tgives tradition continues at zhome! For at least the third year in a row, zmother-in-law called me at 8:55 am and urgently exclaimed that I HAD to turn the parade on for the kids. “It’s on channel four IN FIVE MINNITZ!!!!” zkids are, of course, in a completely different room than the TV, playing a game involving toy dinosaurs and their imaginations. As a result I am stuck watching Al Roker sitting in a motorcycle’s sidecar.
ReplyDeleteYou beat me to it...
ReplyDeleteit was either that or engage with my in-laws, teej. as always, gtb is a refuge.
ReplyDeleteYou see, you don't have to live like a refugee...
ReplyDelete(Don't have to live like a refugee)
To my gheorghies—
ReplyDeleteGratitude is far from a once-a-year activity at G:TB, but since it’s Thanksgiving, let me say once more how thoroughly thankful I am today and every day to be a part of such a terrific band of human beings issuing buckets of equal parts sheer genius and noble dipshittery on a routine basis at this virtual truck stop. I love you turkeys.
Yours in gheorghiness,
Whitney
I’m finally starting to feel a little better thanks to a zpac. So my kid decides to pick up the slack and puke in the living room this morning. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteClint Eastwood stars in The Mule. In theaters December 14.
ReplyDeleteThat’s a John Holmes biopic, right?
For the record, I am not involved with zpacs.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, shame on Zman for not raising attention about the fantastic Hip Hop Evolution doc sooner. I am one episode into Season 2. I loved loved loved the deep history. Grandmaster Flash is the shit.
ReplyDeleteSecond point - Team TR started the day off on an underwhelming dinghy as a part of our half day morning excursion. I felt a little like Tom Hanks in Splash (“The little boat!?”), but we pulled in a trio of 10-12 lb black tuna. Captain filleted them on the spot, my kids loved the gore, and we are about to eat seared/grilled tuna for lunch.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest guy also barfed repeatedly on the boat. He is a world class barfer.
Happy barfsgiving everyone! Nice to have a place to come talk a little shit with all of you without it being too public.
ReplyDeleteMy extended fam all went outta town, so this is our first thanksgiving at our home. Vinyl is spinning, grub is cooking and the boys aren't bickering, for now. Not bad.
preparing my crippled ass to eat copious mounts of food and move maybe 10 feet over the next 10 hours
ReplyDeletegood times
happy turkey day, fam
Afternoon. Turkey trotted this a.m. with my son. The girls wussed out. Smoked our leftover turkey....will send a pic. It should be on the cover of a magazine, humbly put. Smoking some artichokes and shrimp for apps to bring over to the neighbors. Post dinner is a big fire, friends, and whiskey sipping. Happy Thanksgiving folks.
ReplyDeleteIs TR in the Bahamas? Keys?
ReplyDeleteCosta Rica
ReplyDeleteAt my dad’s how for Thanksgiving. It’s nice, since my stepmom passed this year and I’m singular these days. And he just mentioned in passing that he routinely irons his boxer shorts.
ReplyDeleteOf all the ways to find out you’re adopted...
No offense gents, but I want the invite to Danimal’s T-giving party. He had me at “smoked artichokes and shrimp” and “whiskey sipping.”
ReplyDeleteWe had our amazing tuna lunch. And then my kids walked outside the restaurant and spent ten minutes petting a friendly stray cat. They immediately blew out in hives and itching and were less than composed about the whole process. So we found our way to a local clinic for topical cream and Benadryl. That should ensure they are basket cases for dinner. That dinner, which we researched extensively, is on the beach 25 mins away, so I have to behave for the drive home. Suboptimal.
Cut down several trees this morning and then chopped them up for firewood. Turkey is in the oven and I’ve started in on 12 year old scotch.
ReplyDeleteThe kid puked again and her fever spiked to 103 which necessitated a trip to urgent care. She’s ok now. Just wiped out and laid up on the couch. Feel bad for her because she was excited for Thanksgiving with the family.
ReplyDeleteWe were supposed to be at my sisters for Thanksgiving. That’s not happening. Feels like a takeout bar food kind of Thanksgiving.
Marls is the 21st century Bunyan.
ReplyDeleteHe’s gonna have some 21st century bunions after this day.
ReplyDeleteAnnnd one last round of puking just as we neared bed time. Feel terrible for my kid. She loves all this family shit.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I’ve had a kind bar to eat so far today. Looks like burgers are on tap soon.
I’d say it was a bad Thanksgiving but days like today are, oddly, make being a parent special.
i hear that, mark.
ReplyDeletewhiskey to wine to beer, with time to go. pacing is important.
Here in the star city, I've gone wine>bourbon>beer>gin-n-soda. First beer I've had in awhile. Not bad...
ReplyDeletebee pollen?
ReplyDeleteI was going to call it a night. Decided to reward myself for this hard day of parenting with a glass of Pappy. Happy Thanksgiving, Gheorghies.
ReplyDeleteatta boy. closing out with a whiskey bookend. feel good about the work i did today.
ReplyDeleteRob might be today’s MVP. Responsible day long drinking whilst tolerating his in laws.
ReplyDeleteNo bee pollen today. Prolly have a spoonful or two tomorrow though.
