Pop Culture for today...
New book out this week - Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run.
Read it. NYT Review.
New movies out today - American Honey, which didn't catch my eye in a trailer but reviews quite well, and Masterminds, which I was hoping would be good but which has reviewed somewhat poorly.
View it at your own peril.
New album out today - Drive-By Truckers, American Band
Hear it. Reviews thus far. (All are very positive, but we wait for Z's.)
Dave hasn't reviewed much lately, so we thought we'd sub in here.
I keep looking for Marls + Mrs. Marls in the Ryder Cup crowds--haven't seen them yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm heading to Clemson tonight.
My brother-in-law is from a Clemson family. We are staying in their condo which is basically across the street from where College Gameday is camped out. Doubt I'll make it onto TV. But I am still SO EXCITED for this road trip!
Dave, I expect 'sentence' spelled out across your fingers. S-E-N-T on the right hand fingers and E-N-C-E on the left hand fingers.
ReplyDeletei appreciate clarence's avant garde format stylings. dude is way ahead of his time.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to jinx anything but it seems the Americans are collectively pantsing the Europeans on the back 9.
ReplyDeletecromulent ball-golfery by the red, white, and blue for sure, mayhugh
ReplyDeleteNot so much this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThe American team not being able to keep up their dominance was so predictable.
ReplyDeleteShlara- is this your first big time CFB game? You're in a great location at Auburn with a Lake for a game of this magnitude. Added bonus with it being a night game. You'll have a blast, I'm sure.
I've been to big time CFB games, just not to the College Game Day set/scene yet. It's going to be nuts!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Minnesota. The people are really fucking nice here.
ReplyDeleteWhitney is there too, no? Have fun.
ReplyDeleteThey'll throw you in a wood chipper, Marls. Don't be fooled.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous that Shlara is catching a big game at Clemson. One of my few non SEC campuses in the south that I want to see a game at. Also, former home of young Pete Maravich.
I'm in Norfolk, VA. Not Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteJust got to Clemson. The BIL family condo is literally in front of the college game day set. I am standing on he balcony looking. At the stage. It's like we have a suite.
ReplyDeleteweird, i put up a review today as well at sentence of dave. more scathing, biased and idiotic than these, but that's how i roll. i actually need mark and zman to confirm my review, it's hip-hop related . . .
ReplyDeleteDespite living walking distance from Gameday setups in Gainesville for 4 years I never once attended one. Mostly because waking up early on game day is stupid when you're following up a night of heavy drinking with a day of heavy drinking. Is consider it now that I'm old and boring though.
ReplyDeleteDrove 40 minutes to Flanders (again) this morning. Arrived at 8 AM to find out soccer tourney was cancelled b/c the township was concerned about a wet field being chewed up by 50 lb kids' cleats.
ReplyDeleteMy 7 y/o, who we dragged out of bed at 645 AM, is less than fired up about all of this.
American Honey trailer is pretty cool. Maybe I should buy my wife a Confederate flag bikini.
LinkedIn sends me job postings they think I might like. Today this includes a job with Jockey designing bras. Sounds like difficult but satisfying work.
ReplyDeleteUnless it's for manzieres. That would be less satisfying.
ReplyDeleteCuse/ND is an industrial tire fire
ReplyDeleteok, zman and mark, now i really need your expert opinion at sentence of dave.
ReplyDeleteTire fire is what Mickelson/Fowler were this morning. Surprised FIGJAM is playing this afternoon. I guess at least they didn't gack one up like their mates.
ReplyDeletepatrick reed seems to be an excitable young man
ReplyDeleteJim Harbaugh is a spectacular prick.
ReplyDeleteBest post !
