Friday Filler - Worlds Colliding Edition

This is one of my favorite cover songs of all-time, and not just because of my affinity for the original performer (Bruce) and the covering band (The Band). I'm attaching a live version and a cleaner studio version. Pick one you like.

Happy Friday, gents.

  1. in what seems to me to be a real shocker, fifa did not elect the most corrupt candidate as sepp blatter's successor. gianni infantino is your new capo di capi tutti.

  2. It's my 5th anniversary so the wife and I ditched the kids and took the day off. Gonna do a little day drinking, eat some good food, take a nap. Probably repeat all that again tonight.

  3. KQ and I are on a similar schedule tomorrow starting with a nooner Ire v Eng match down the pub. Later we're heading to see her brother and his buddy Bonnie Ford on a panel at GU that some of you with daughters may find interesting pinkconcussions.com/programs

Also, Rob I'm in for the LoCo trail piss up.

  4. Is spending $250 on craft beer in the last 10 days at two breweries, excessive?

Rob, if I get back in that neck of the woods count me in on a LoCo trail piss up as well.

  9. This is bullsh*t how was the tiny dictator overlooked for the FIFA job!?!

Random side note, as per usual, has anyone in the FOG:TB community, all 8 or so of us, had to travel with an elderly parent? I have to bring my dad up to the NE area next Saturday and his health is suspect, to say the least. Nothing crazy just 81 years old and not self sufficient. This adult responsibility thing is tough. Suggestions appreciated. Young attending nurse not an option.

  10. Watched Sicario w/ the missus tonight. Haven't felt this happy at the end of a movie since I saw The Day After.

  12. likeliest outcome today for the tribe is to wind up the season with the 5th seed in the caa tournament, though 3rd and 4th are possible. to get 3rd, need a win at jmu and a towson loss to hofstra.

  13. I did TR's homework assignment, and I'm going to give the nod to the live version, just because you get to see Garth Hudson ooze brilliance through an accordion. Rick Danko looks pretty rough.

I saw Levon Helm and his band play this tune at 2010 Floydfest. I watched from just off the side of the stage, behind Levon's kit.

  14. I'm going to see Ty Segall tonight. Naughty By Nature is playing the same venue. winning.

  19. I love Tyler Ullis. And I hate that I love a Kentucky basketball player so much.

In other news, a friend of mine from high school started a Latin/Thai fusion restaurant (his Mom is Thai and his wife is Puerto Rican) and it's fantastic. It's also basically hip hop themed (music, decor, etc) and even has Wu Tang Wednesdays. I'm going to be giving him lots of my money.

  20. tribe loses to jmu. the same two teams run it back in the 4/5 game in baltimore next saturday at 2:30. we'll save you a seat, danimal.

  21. That rolling stone article makes me realize that trump is treating this like Survivor with each primary as a Tribal council meeting.

  22. taibbi's a genius, but his abrasiveness makes him persona non grata for the mainstream media, so his voice gets a bit lost.

  23. Rob--I blame this late season Tribe meltdown on your hope and enthusiasm.

  24. Flag football ended today. A win meant going to the playoffs. My son who was stellar on d gave us a chance giving us one last possession to win. He then threw a pick 6. Gutted. Couldn't feel worse for him

  25. shlara, once the tribe realized that where they finished in the regular season didn't matter, they conserved energy heading into the tournament. also, i picked them to finish 5th in the conference before the season started, so i think they're right where they need to be. blind squirrel and nuts and all that.

  26. danimal, i think this is a good opportunity to teach the young declanimal about drinking away one's sorrows

  27. My 8 y/o (who was 7 at the time) struck out to end a quasi-travel baseball game, eliminating his team from a tourney. He got saucer-eyed stepping to the plate, feeling the pressure, and had no shot due to nerves. Awful to experience as a parent. He's still not over it.

  28. Pink Talking Fish tonight. Again. Google them.

  29. 1) I'm jealous of Whit. He's gonna have fun tonight.

    2) OKC-Warriors is fantastic. My 8 y/o earned a late bedtime after good behavior tonight. I need to explain to him that this is not a normal
    regular season game.

  30. I want an OKC-Warriors playoff series this year more than any other possible playoff series. They play highly entertaining basketball.

  31. After Spurs-Grizzlies, of course.

  32. curry just tied the season record for threes. there are 24 games left in the season.

    ReplyDelete
  33. he's nuts. he has the potential to break the record by a larger percentage than pretty much any sports record has been broken by.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My step daughters boyfriend is a good basketball player. He just texted me to make sure I saw what Curry just did. I think he had to ask her for my number to do that. The power of Steph Curry.

    ReplyDelete
  35. that might've been the most amazing thing i've seen in a regular season game.

    ReplyDelete
  36. He's a fucking unicorn. It's awesome.

I saw people on Twitter bitching that OKC didn't pick Steph up at half court. He's so good that they actually have a point.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If you search Curry 3-pointers on YouTube, there is a collection of ridiculous ones he put together. It's about 5-6 minutes long. Well worth your time.
