Wah, Wah Wah Wah Wah Wah

The G:TB staff is ambivalent about the CG-3D Peanuts movie in wide release today. On the one hand, Charles Schulz himself was clear that he did not want any new Peanuts material developed after he passed in 2000. On the other, it's the Peanuts, man, still the GOAT.

One thing we are decidedly not ambivalent about is the casting of the voice of adults in the new film. You'll remember the 'wah wah, wah wah wah wah' mumblebrass from the original animated Peanuts episodes.

But this is 2015, and our wah wah technology has advanced substantially.

If you're jonesing for a preview while you're waiting in line this evening for the show, the good people at 20th Century Fox have set up a Wah Wah Machine. You probably won't spend more than an hour playing with it.

Good grief.

  1. I am working from home today and will be begging my wife to take my kids to anything that will get them away and give me a moment's peace. They think Peanuts is lame, but they never had to rely on comic strips to amuse themselves like we did.

In other news, the Warriors are undefeated at 5-0. Their average margin of victory, you might ask? An impressive 20.8 points. The idea that this team may be even better this year is an exciting one. No more awkward David Lee presence, Bogut is finally in shape, Draymond continues to get better, Steph still at the top of his game, Klay continues to get better, etc. I think we're all crossing our fingers for a 69 or 71 win season.

  2. Oh yeah, I forgot to add Steph is averaging more than a point per minute. I'm pretty sure that's considered "not bad" in NBA circles.

  3. Commenting on yesterday's post...well done, Rob! We don't know the answers either, but God help us if any of the clown caricatures really are meant to be the serious contenders from the GOP. Sorry to those I'm offending there.
As to "Peanuts" -- our kids love the comic strips and are skeptical but optimistic about the film...apparently they are purists at heart.
Regarding the Chris Stapleton phenom...our friends in KY are over-the-moon about him and his success because he's from the neighborhood....anything to off-set the boondoggle of Kim Davis and the Gov race that elected a tea-party guy!
Here's to a good weekend for all!

  4. Curry also averaging 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game. And I still love his Mom.

  5. This Rolling Stone blurb is totally innocuous, but I took enormous amounts of umbrage with about 5 different things in it, starting with the picture. Name another rock star who wears their own merch. Honestly. Come on, you dipshit.

I need to let it go. But man, is he a douche.

  6. Curry is markedly better in the early going than last year. Which is something that would've been tough to imagine coming into the season.

HBO has a good 10 minute preview on the making of the Peanuts movie. Peanuts never did much for me but the animation is cool and I don't think it will be torture to sit through so I'm planning on taking the kid at some point.

  7. Speaking of HBO, the new doc on Kareem is fantastic.

  8. I always find the Kareem pieces in Time interesting probably because it is not often you see well reasoned thoughts from a professional athlete. Whether you agree or not.

While we are in Aruba without the kid, we told my sister-in-law to take our son to the Peanut's movie. He's seen the holiday classics but Snoopy and Woodstock make him giggle uncontrollably.

I maybe an Aruba newbie but if you make your way to there I'd give a strong white for the Tradewinds club at the Marriott. Free beer from 7am to 9pm at the lounge with open bar from 5pm to 9pm. I have overserverd myself much to my wife's dismay.

  9. i'd write a 'gheorghe explains the election' piece on ben carson, but that dude's rise in the polls is inexplicable. his lack of knowledge of basic scientific and historical facts make him staggeringly unqualified for municipal office, let alone the presidency.

  10. My wife, who is technically a millennial, had never seen or heard of Peanuts or Charlie Brown until last year. I find this almost unbelievable. I made her watch the Thanksgiving special last year and she gave up after about 5 minutes. She said it was too slow, it wasn't funny, and she didn't get it. She doesn't know she trampled on a significant piece from my childhood.

  11. so when you talk to her, does she hear 'wah wah, wah wah wah wah'?

  12. How is it possible never to have seen or heard of Peanuts? It is still in newspapers now. You would have had to purposely blocked out all newspapers and tv around Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween for your entire lifetime. I find this hard to believe.

  13. marcus has finally started to break out down under - dropped 29 and 25 in consecutive kings losses to melbourne united.

  14. Out of curiosity, what do you think Marcus is making there? $500 K per season? It's a short season, right?

Just thinking how fun it would be to be 22 y/o playing sports professionally in Australia w/ a shit-ton of disposable income.

  15. I dumped a girl in college because she broke out down under.

  16. 500k???? You drastically overestimate what
Overseas pros make, TR. Even most guys in high level European leagues don't make 500k a year. That said, I'm sure Marcus is having himself a swell time.

  17. After a really, really long and trying day of work followed by kid related stuff I got home about 30 minutes ago with my first chance to truly relax shortly ahead of me. I jumped in the shower and...the power went out. It's supposed to be back on in an hour or so. Which is just terrific. Not my day. Not my fucking day.

  18. So $150 K and a couple didgeridoos?

  23. The best thing about Elon is that they used to be the Fighting Christians. The worst thing about Elon is that they changed that name.

  24. zson did not win his race in swim class today but he disputed the outcome, alleging that Brandon got an unfair head start. He has recovered but it's still a sore spot. Austen's mom wisely moved him down a class into one where the parent gets in the pool with the kid. Austen's mom brings the ruckus.
