Happy Birthday, Big Man
October 3, 1951 was a special day for baseball. David Mark Winfield was born in Minnesota. Some mediocre major leaguer named Bobby Thompson also did something that day, but I forget what it was. Probably wasn't a big deal.
Happy 64th, big man. I still think you are being screwed over by the Yankees, who refuse to acknowledge you in Monument Park despite your 1,172 games played as a Yankee.
Feeling better than I should after a night of being the old guy (amongst many others) in a college town. Excited for tonight's game even though I think Florida gets smashed. Take Ole Miss and give the points.
Other picks: Bama, Central Michigan, over in SMU-ECU. I like Notre Dame tonight too but not enough to put cash on it.
It hurts Mark. It really hurts. And I say that with all due respect to TR. I'm thinking the people that run this popcorn stand will make amends before 8 pm or so.
I have a kid birthday party, then an outdoor, 3.5 hour family-oriented party in 50 degree weather that might not have alcohol. And my golf outing tmrw morning was already cancelled. Good times in NJ.
In other news, Tribe - Delaware getting some TV love on NBCSN at 730 tonight. Get some. Will be good for the Tribe if they get CB/KR Aaron Swinton back. He looked great in the Lafayette game (1 INT, good returns) until he hurt his knee.
Velasquez has been a pretty reliable safety valve on special teams in Swinton's absence. He also had the INT off the tip that kept the Stony Brook game not close. I think Tribe is playoff caliber but we'll see with JMU in a few weeks. They look to be the team to beat.
entering this year, chelsea had lost once at home under mourinho in 95 some-odd matches. after today, they've lost twice in four this season. breaking my heart.
I'm not a VT fan by any stretch, but I feel bad for their QB, Motley. He injured his shoulder some time early in the second half and has essentially been hit on 75% of his dropbacks since then, which is a lot since they've been behind. Pitt's D-line looks phenomenal.
Saturday work travel with some semblance of a lining with getting to see end of Michigan State Purdue and Iowa Wisconsin. A Purdue win would have been hayuge. Woulda coulda. Oh...I also had 3 pints. Hee hee.
A high school friend of mine played WR at Purdue with Brees and Tiller so I kind of riot for them. They are a disaster. None of us appreciated how great a coach Tiller was.
Gainesville is absolutely on fire today. The swamp will be special tonight. Until Ole Miss goes up by two TDs in the first quarter. Still, a fun weekend. I encourage any G:TBer to come visit for a big game. I'll meet you. Good times will follow.
Wait, Florida's current kicker has never attempted a field goal? I understand it's from injury, but that seems irresponsible. Hoping they can get it into the endzone here.
Swing low sweet chariot, coming for to carry England home for the rest of RWC. Donzo list for the hosts before pool play completed. That's gonna leave a mark.
Brooklyn is super inconvenient from where Zman and I live. That issue, combined with what appears to be astronomical prices, is likely keeping me away. But I do love love love those guys. Not sure I've ever heard two sports personalities who are funnier and have better chemistry than those two.
the prices are absurd, but i agree with your take on their chemistry. they're gonna blow up (even more) as soccer gets bigger in america. hell, they're doing nfl stuff now for yahoo sports.
Danimal's opus got bumped for that? Huh.

i wish i could like man city, 'cause they're fun as hell to watch when they're rolling. and right now, they're rolling.

ReplyDeletePopcorn for everyone
ReplyDeleteI set my post up a couple days ago, before I knew Danimal had a 6900 word post teed up.

ReplyDeletespeaking of coaching issues, i hope charlie strong has a good relocation company.

ReplyDeleteI feel like I haven't heard anything about Purdue football since 2 or 3 years after Brees left.

I'm in.
ReplyDeleteI love posts with the herpes tag.
ReplyDeletewhen i said i thought georgia might beat alabama, i hadn't remembered that greyson lambert leads the dawgs 'offense'. my bad.
ReplyDeleteRoll damn tide
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a stretch to rely on a guy who couldn't start for UVA.
ReplyDeleteSo, I realize Maryland is poop, but pretty impressive that Michigan hasn't allowed points in 2 straight games (and some change).
Blue Hens pushing the Tribe D around. We got a kickoff return for a TD, but they just blocked a punt and recovered for a TD.
ReplyDeleteDorka may be punting and kicking the rest of the game.
"I'm standing here, with my dork in my hand!"
Commerce airport bar drinking.
ReplyDeleteGators lookin good.
Wait, Florida's current kicker has never attempted a field goal? I understand it's from injury, but that seems irresponsible. Hoping they can get it into the endzone here.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty unbelievable. Ole Miss D looks bewildered.
ReplyDeleteSwing low sweet chariot, coming for to carry England home for the rest of RWC. Donzo list for the hosts before pool play completed. That's gonna leave a mark.
ReplyDeleteBlue Hens just missed a 25 yd figgie. I'll take it.
ReplyDeleteThat Clemson D is nasty.
ReplyDeleteDelaware's stadium is just as I imagined--100% aluminum.
ReplyDeleteThomas Jefferson goes to Delaware?
ReplyDeletetough day for the state of mississippi. which, i guess, is redundant.
ReplyDeletescherzer's no-hitter the least consequential and most anti-climactic ever?
ReplyDeleteI would say it's consequential for the psyche of Mets fans.
ReplyDeleteGators' dominance has me flummoxed.
Tribe turned it around well. Dorka is huge.
Berek Dorka?
ReplyDeletetribe might want to stop jefferson from matriculating down the field
ReplyDeletei don't love that 3rd down play call. no options when the first was covered.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I'd have preferred a run, based off the successful counter formation we've run. Very low percentage pass.
ReplyDeletetribe's obviously losing this game on a field goal, right?
ReplyDeleteHens' kicker ain't exactly Steve Christie. But their methodical running game makes me think Tribe may not get it back w/ much time.
ReplyDeleteI like that TO. Let the D catch their breath and try to force a long figgie.
ReplyDeleteBest laid plans...
ReplyDeleteThis is such a Tribey outcome. They lose whenever I watch no matter the sport.
ReplyDeleteRandolph NJ!
ReplyDeleteFuck
ReplyDeletenope
ReplyDeletei hope mark doesn't celebrate florida's win by drinking. that could lead to suboptimal outcomes.
ReplyDeletetr, you thinking about going to blazercon?

ReplyDeleteDanny Kanell is:
ReplyDeletea) wearing his grandfather's dress shirt
And
b) slowly morphing into Bill Maher
the prices are absurd, but i agree with your take on their chemistry. they're gonna blow up (even more) as soccer gets bigger in america. hell, they're doing nfl stuff now for yahoo sports.
ReplyDeleteEvenin', les gheorgies
ReplyDeleteMorning, boys. I still don't know how Florida dominated Ole Miss like that. ''Twas a great day/night to be in Gainesville.
