Good Grantland piece on the Skins' name. I've been thinking about composing something similar for a while; glad they got it out of the way over there.
In truth, I don't have much more to add. Intelligent people with even trace elements of a conscience cannot build a convincing argument that "Redskins" is not a hateful, offensive word it its core.
And the worst thing that could happen to sway popular fan opinion against the name of our beloved team was for Daniel Snyder to come out in vocal, obnoxious support. I suggest that the name go, but please take the owner with it.
I'm with you Clarence. I thought the quote about it being insulting that no offense should be taken because it is not intended to be offensive nailed it. You can't tell folks how to feel. That anyone legitimately finds it offensive should be reason enough. And the number of former players commenting on it with some form of "It's always been the name, why change it now" argument is just shameful.
Really hoping LeBron goes for like 45-12-8 tonight. Not because I like the Heat but because I'd like to see him take over when the Heat need it the most.
I'm not, Dan (I'm not a northeasterner, I know). I am just about to head up your way for a weekend with the family at Hammock Beach. Between myself and my sister's families they'll be 10 kids in attendance. Good thing Hammock Beach is the type of place I can lay by the pool with a drink whilst the kids run wild in one if the ten pools. And it has a lazy river. Drunk floating!
My sister lives outside o' Philly and will be going to a couple of rounds with her husband. Ticket wasted on her.
For the obft faithful, tortuga's is indeed undergoing an addition. Should be done by the trip. Little more breathing room for the masses. Bar is unchanged, so no diff for us.
Fun fact for the US Open: I lived a few blocks from Merion Golf Club for two years when I was a kid. Really cute neighborhood. Learned to ride a bike AND ice skate when we lived there.
looks like a quaint area - never been. too bad you didn't still have a home there. most of the hospitality tents are in the front lawns of the neighbors. that's a 6-figure buy.
i don't take adavantage of being able to run on the beach and / or hop in the ocean during lunch breaks enough. i did today though, both.
So you guys are absolutely correct about tortugas...such amazingly fantastic food!! Thanks! And our pals watched the children so husband and I went on a date :-)
This post is nuts.

Goodel's letter justifying the name Redskins was both foolish and shameful.

Yes, we're staying at Hammock Beach for the weekend. Stayed here for a friends wedding a couple years ago. Pretty solid place.
