Your Thursday Madness Open Thread

Sorry to push down rob's "Picking Up Butch" post, but the 2012 NCAA Tournament has now begun, and I figured we needed an open thread to rant and rave about today's games. Please feel free to continuing trashing Rick Reilly in the comments, though, as that is always fun. For today's filler pics, I went back to an oldie but goodie theme...

  2. I agree with Rob. Every commenter here could have thought for a second about Butch and his story with each comment posted. Now we get to think about Teejay. Lose-lose.

  3. No one will ever Go Pick Up Teedge.

  4. It's a fucking Rick Reilly story from 9 years ago. Who gives a shit.

  5. Being able to watch these games on my monitor at work is glorious. Especially since I seem to have better picture quality than at home.

  6. Z-man, Mario Williams, eh?

  7. My lunchtime viewing party with the girls was ruined by parents and kids who fell ill. Being old and responsible sucks.

  8. Shockwave Flash keeps crashing on my computer. This is very, very bad.

  9. Yes, z-man, it's a done deal.

Mario Williams on Thursday agreed to a six-year deal with the Buffalo Bills that's potentially worth $100 million and includes $50 million guaranteed, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

  10. I'm happily stunned. The Bills made a move that is both big and sound! Dareus and Williams on the same line? Now all they need are some linebackers.

  11. lesley visser has had some serious work done.

  12. She's had more work done than the Death Star between Star Wars and Return of the Jedi.

  13. How quickly can Brandon Meriweather find himself in trouble here in D.C.?

  14. I'm still in shock. Dareus, Mario Williams, Kyle Williams, and Chris Kelsay. Maybe Buddy Nix isn't brain dead?

  15. Bill Simmons just wrote an article on Oscar Robertson's legacy. Who really gives a fuck about that on the day the tourney starts? Do I (or anybody, for that matter) need to have an opinion on his legacy? Can I just appreciate that he was a stats machine from another era?

I hate the way Simmons has invented this way of looking at basketball. It's the same way I hate that ESPN now has two links on the front page for big stories: a link to the news article and a link to a "reaction" article from a reporter.

Why can't ESPN just report the news and let me form opinions of that news?

  16. Sorry. Needed to get that rant off of my (cyber)chest.

  17. Don't bait me.

But really, the double links to story really are annoying. Especially when the link is titled "Reax" and the link has video of Stephen A. Smith screaming.

    Fuck you Merrill Hoge.

  18. scanning the article on oscar, i will say i found it enlightning. i had no idea he was such a prick.

  19. From the 3 minutes I've watched basketball today, Cuse offense is resembling the Wizards.

Simmons had a good 4 page synopsis of Big O in his book. Haven't looked but today's article likely largely borrows from that. Does he repat the mildly amusing "ballboards" story that Simmons finds hilarious?

Can't wait for this conference to wrap for the day so I can enjoy the sports.

  20. I never, ever, watch the videos on ESPN.com. I would much rather watch sports or read opinions on sports than watch people arguing about sports on my computer, particularly people like Merrell Hodge.

  22. Zman, I kind of like Maral Haj.

  23. Come on, Asheville. Do it for Butch.

  24. There might never be a more entertaining postgame presser than the one Boeheim will give if Cuse loses.

  29. And, I'm going to visit my sister in Charlotte this weekend. They just started filming the latest season of The Bachelorette there. Thanks to twitter, I learned about a charity event that will be used as a group date for Emily & some of the men. It will also feature the Muppets. I bought tickets today--so my sister and I will be able to witness the group date first hand. I'm so excited. And I know you guys watch this show, so secrectly, you think this is cool too.

  30. People that self-promote TV appearances are sooo lame, Shlara. Wait a sec...

  31. Oh no...I won't be on TV...I'll be in the audience and will get to see the crazy Bachelor people on TV. Up close & personal. And wil pre-judge them before we get to meet them on Monday nights.

  32. Wait a minute Shlara...the Bachelorette is dating Muppets now? Reality TV is so confusing.
