Tip of the cap to Mr. Nolte on his 69th birthday. Frankly, we're shocked and pleased he's still with us. With a list of acting accomplishments both long AND distinguished, Nicholas King Nolte has survived turbulent times in tinsel town and carved out a stellar, if not spectacular, film career. And he's not finished yet - what with four more movies slated for release in 2010. While it was 48 Hrs. that put him on the star map (and was his biggest paydirt at $2 Million, a somewhat surprising statistic), it was his work in a little film called Affliction that was his best performance - although Penny Hardaway, Matt Nover and Shaquille O'Neal might think otherwise...

Is anyone watching Sports Center today? One of the bracket-buster analyst dudes is doing the "are they in or out" game. He's comparing UNC to Richmond. Under Richmond's record, the key loss is "William & Mary"
ReplyDeleteDid you EVER think you'd see that??
And, this dude put Richmond in, and UNC out.
The defending National Champs....
Calling BS on the Indiana Jones nugget. I believe that Selleck was Spielberg's first pick and Harry Ford was his back-up.
ReplyDeletei think alec baldwin was the first pick....recently heard that.
ReplyDeleteI heard Buster Poindexter was the first pick. Turned it down because he didn't want to work with any asians. A terrible bigot, that Buster Poindexter.
ReplyDeleteI also heard that Magnum turned down the role of Indy. If Magnum were both Magnum and Indy he'd be even cooler than Han Solo.
ReplyDeletejust got home from pittsburgh. how come nobody told me we got a fuckton of snow?
ReplyDeleteSo it's officially a fuckton now? Wow, interesting. I had heard conflicting reports on whether or not the DC area would reach a fuckton.
ReplyDeleteTom Selleck was interested in the role of Indy, but at the initiation of contract negotiations ABC (Network that owned Magnum) stepped in and cited his contract which prevented him from filming other projects while Magnum was shooting.
ReplyDeleteGene Hackman was the original selection for the role of Hannibal Lector (with Meg Ryan playing Starrling).
Goldie Hawn and Merryl Streep were the original picks for Thelma and Louise.
Elvis turned down the role of Midnight Cowboy.
Al Pacino rewrote the script for First Blood in which he was slated to star as John Rambo before turning down the role (after which time Sly took it on and rewrote it).
They are now calling for 10-20" of snow starting Tuesday afternoon.
Oh, and Bill Murray was considered for the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne before Michael Keaton got it.
ReplyDeleteI was slated to play Dirk Diggler but a conflict arose. Burt Reynolds also wanted the role when first approached to do the movie. He reluctantly accepted the Jack Horner role when he heard I got the part.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think Roy Schneider turned down First Blood as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd Rob Schneider turned down......nothing really
ReplyDeleteand this has been an episode of, "Did You Know?"
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Rob Schneider, I had the misfortune of watching ESPN yesterday at the gym. They had Schneider, Spade, Sandler, Chris Rock and Kevin James on to promote a movie coming out this year. Rock and Sandler were dressed like wealthy guys who can do whatever they want. The other 3 were dressed like they were trying to win a Douchebag of the Year award. In my book, they all tied for first in my book.
ReplyDeleteTR - I saw that segment, too, and was disgusted. Sandler hasn't been funny in 10 years. Schneider never really was. They just came off like a bunch of tools who dressed like they thought they were cool enough to get away with it.
ReplyDeletethis book of yours, tr. please tell us more of it.
ReplyDeleteA duck flew away with TR's book.
ReplyDeleteThis discussion has taken a number of unexpected turns.
ReplyDeletein the film "mad dog and glory," de niro was supposed to play the mobster and bill murray the lonely cop, typical characters for each, but they decided to switch roles right before the start of the film.
ReplyDeletedoes everyone have FIOS? they're updating around us but i hate change. and i'm still not getting the cable, but it seems like DSL is disappearing. i feel railroaded by a monopoly . . .
Pretty, pretty, pretty solid Big Monday on tap tonight.
ReplyDeleteIs ESPN using the LOST music for college hoops commercials?
ReplyDeleteVinsanity
ReplyDeleteDon't encourage him, Jerry.
