Let's See Skymall Top This

I'm spending the latter part of the week learning how to capture Federal business (apparently, it involves channeling Sorrell Booke, prostrating oneself before the altar of large systems integrators, and copious amounts of common sense), so I missed yesterday's great rock-and-roll conflagration.

I didn't miss this, though, which rocketed to the top of my Christmas list and comprises my meager contribution to the discussion. Two words: Weezer Snuggie. Like you aren't buying two this morning.

  1. Whit, I am quite surprised you're not the creator of this site:

  2. Glad to see Zoltan get some modeling work.

  3. Zoltan on left, Weird Al on right.

  4. I see Uncle Rico as much as I do Weird Al.

  5. Unemployment rate jumps to 10.2%. Congrats to the USA for getting to that level well ahead of schedule. Economic pundits thought it would take us until 2010 to get there, but we showed them!

  6. You see Uncle Rico, I see Lazlo.

  7. The guy on the right looks like Clay Aiken. The guy on the left is probably a ladykiller.

  8. Isn't that Rivers Cuomo on the left? I'd imagine he's had more than a few ladies in his day. Even geek rock has groupies.

  9. On Twitter there's a feud brewing between a fake Nick Nolte and a fake Gary Busey. Potshots exchanged. Asinine but amusing.

  10. Rolling Stone had a huge article on Weezer a few years back. It painted Cuomo as the absolute weirdest dude on the planet. According to the article, he's abstinent, he doesn't care about money and he holes himself up for months at a time, so the rest of the band never knows if they are still an active group.

It was so over-the-top that I wondered if it was a giant put-on by the band to F with an annoying reporter. But Rolling Stone reported it like it was the truth. Very weird.

  12. I'm curious to read the article again to see how much my decrepit memory skewed the facts of this article. But apathy may reign over curiosity, as it usually does.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well, "Tired of Sex" off Pinkerton may vaguely confirm the abstinence thing.

  14. I'd say Rivers Cuomo has some competition from Viggo Mortensen for Weirdest Dude status. I remember reading an article (believe it was in Esquire) about him. Apparently during the filming of the Lord of the Rings movies, he spoke to none of his co-stars off camera. And he slept outside, tentless, every night of filming... in his costume.

  15. i'd put christian bale in there too...

  16. Rivers Cuomo was abstinent for that period but it was just a phase. He will only sleep with Asian women though. So yeah, weird dude.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I guess I also have kind of a quirky rock star personality, as I went through a phase like that as well. I was abstinent my senior year in college. Not by choice, though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. And, as well all know, you hate Asians.

  19. Which reminds me: my band, Involuntary Abstinence, is playing the Birchmere tonight. I've seen us live, and we're pretty amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Birchmere is great. Your band's acoustics should shine there.

Actually, Dar Williams is playing there tonight and tomorrow. Nice chick singer/songwriter stuff. She's got a nice voice, her album last year was solid if unspectacular, and if you're lucky, she'll dust off her cover of Springsteen's "Highway Patrolman."

  21. From today's WaPo Reliable Source column:

Hey, Isn't that....Gheorghe Muresan, the former Bullets star and still big Wizards booster, having both a coffee and a Coke on the patio of the Occidental on Thursday. Gheorghe, you'll never get to sleep!

  24. I need something to read. I asked teejay to send me some good websites, but he keeps on sending me pictures of cats pressing buttons on remote controls.

  25. Jerry, what else did I send you? Share with the class.

  26. A website that sells Jon Moxon t-shirts?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jerry...do you read Truehoop? Good, comprehensive basketball blog that covers all the NBA and has tons of links to local beat writers and such.

Or you could go work on your facebook page. I know you spend a lot of time there already but I know its something you're passionate about so it'll still probably be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah, I read that most days. It's good - lots of words. I find NBA coverage to be somewhat interesting.

I'm sure my facebook home page is full of people I haven't seen in 14 years saying things like "Wooohoooo YANKS 27 Yeah!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yep, one of the best things about truehoop is the morning roundups of all the local writers' takes on games and whatnot. I'd estimate that I enjoy the day to day coverage of the NBA more than 99% of the population.

I also closely follow college football recruiting. Who's a total bore? >this guy<

    ReplyDelete
  30. you should check out basketballprospectus.com too. It is right up your alley. very geeky.

I do love following college football recruiting also, Mark. The stuff on mgoblog about Michigan's recruits is pretty great. I am really enjoying the trend of recruiting Florida now. seems like other Big Ten teams are following suit. Purdue has a bunch lined up also. might be two-star guys, but this bodes well to help out the athleticism of the Big 11.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I enjoy basketball prospectus, sometimes a little too stats heavy for me but still, very good.

Ohio State has recruited fairly well in Florida for a few years now, always grabbing 2-4 guys per class. It's a great strategy in terms of not only the athletes available but also in establishing relationships with the high school coaches. I'm not surprised Rodriguez is following suit. He recruited Florida pretty well at WVU and got Denard Robinson last year so he's shown himself to be both willing and able.

  32. With all due respect, I prefer websites with naked ladies.

  33. These kids from Pahokee are going to good. I hope that they keep recruiting there. they picked up four or five guys from FL last year.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pahokee, Immokalee and Belle Glade (all terribly poor, rural communities within miles of each other) each produce somewhere between 5-10 D1 kids a year with a few of them becoming stars in one manner or another.

IMO, It's almost always worth taking a shot at one of those kids, especially if its a toss up between one of them and a kid from somewhere else.

Again, for the upside these kids have (Santonio Holmes, for example, was a 3 star) and for the relationships that can be established with the high schools.

  35. I remember an AAU bball game against Pahokee......one of their players had a swastika burned on his biceps

  41. Dan...don't I always post some picks on Saturday morning/early afternoon?

    Don't you worry.

And Greg, that Pahokee game was the one where Ernie hit the halfcourt buzzer beater to win. I still have the highlights from that tourney on VHS.
