Who would've realized that Salt Lake had such a fervent Latino fanbase? I know that the city is now (slightly) less than 50% Mormon, but I had no idea the Latin contingent was hard-core enough to travel that far for the finals.
Shortly after shite-ing the bed, Spud finds himself on a rugby pitch with the opportunity to win a quarter of a million quid by kicking a rugby ball and getting it to bounce off the cross-bar. He kicks, the ball hits the cross-bar, Spud goes nuts, crowd goes wild, subdued British broadcasters make subdued dry comments.
If Dixon plays it will certainly be very interesting. He was bad ass during his last year at Oregon but, up to that point had been pretty inconsistent. Also, I was never completely sold on his pro prospects. System seemed to help him, he was as much or more of a threat to run than pass, he has a bit of a sidearm delivery and he doesn't exactly have a sturdy build.
Make no mistake, I'm a fan. I just think there are a ton of interesting questions about his ability to translate his game to the pros.
I found myself rooting for Dixon a bit more after he hurt his knee and his draft stock crashed. Not sure if the arm strength is there, but his mobility will be a big change from Big Ben and his big fat ass behind center.
As yesterday's injury to Ben showed, there's no way he lasts too long in the league. He's on the Drew Bledsoe path - big guy who starts at a young age, gets hit a ton and starts breaking down before he's 30. Breaking his face in a motorcycle crash didn't help either.
I agree. He's more mobile and elusive (for lack of a better word) than Bledsoe but he still takes far too many hits. As you said, the concussion he suffered in his motorcycle accident is a major factor here as well. I'm guessing it was a very, very bad concussion and thus makes him far more susceptible to additional concussions going forward.
I got an email today relevant to rob's comment on Wes Welker last night. Yeah, I'm bored at work.
"Brady and Welker have now played together in 27 games.
The Patriots are 24-3 in those games, with the three losses by a total of 7 points (3 Giants Superbowl last year, and this year Denver by 3, and Indy by 1)
In those 27 games Welker has 220 receptions!! That’s insane."
That works out to about 130 catches per 16 games. And he's on pace for 158 catches this season after yesterday's preposterous outburst.
So I replied that Sanchez and Cotchery are better. I love to needle Bostonians. They're humorless about their sports teams.
I needled the source of the email, not you Br'er Squirrel. It's painfully clear that you root for the Redskins. I'll let Mark add a Redskins/racism joke.
he's got pretty decent teeth.
ReplyDeleteand i think those cheerleaders were definitely imports.
Rob's namesake won the MLS Cup in PKs last night.
ReplyDeleteI guess congratulations are in order, Rob.
Is that the guy who played Spud in Trainspotting?

ReplyDeleteSo I guess we're about to see the Dennis Dixon era in Pitt? He was bad-ass at Oregon. Would be nice to see him do play well.
ReplyDeletedammit-- no prose summary.
ReplyDeletei'm imagining spud from trainspotting sporting a grill, smiling while he's thrown aloft by a squad of sexy cheerleaders.

They certainly have better names...
ReplyDeletei'm not a patriots fan, z - just have an affinity for diminutive honky wideouts.

ReplyDeleteThe first Rhodes Scholarships were awarded in 1904. W&M has only had 6 Rhodes scholars. We suck.
ReplyDeleteSo, how much extra do you think Gene Hackman just got paid to do the "Lowes thanks Jimmie Johnson for winning the car thing" ad?
ReplyDeletenot racist, mark. heightist.
ReplyDeleteI say both, Rob. You root for Alabama AND the Redskins.
ReplyDeletei root for alabama to balance my alleged white guilt.
ReplyDeleteMuch like why I root for Vassar.
ReplyDeleteAnd much like why I don't watch college football.
ReplyDeleteoh good, it's vince young's scrotum.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope that's my new nickname.
ReplyDeletesadly, no, geoff. mnf showed a tape of young running the 40 in the combine wearing only compression shorts.
ReplyDeleteand real salt lake left robbie russell unprotected in the mls expansion draft. bastards.
Rob, you like Kevin Walter a lot too, yes?
ReplyDeletehe's a little tall
ReplyDeleteF'ing heightist.
ReplyDeletethat was a ridiculous throw by young. rolling left, chucked it 50+ yards in the air, hit the receiver in the hands. dropped.
ReplyDeleteOK tiny, you have to like the kid from Rice.
ReplyDeleteOkay I'll admit it. The Desmond Howard College Gameday commercial where he said his super-power is looking fly made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteSo tonight is "Slobber All Over Vince Young Night"?
ReplyDeleteYou know what's worse than both of your resin-fueled thoughts?
ReplyDeleteYou.
