  1. I can't believe there isn't a hair replacement company knocking down Landon Donovan's door to get him to rep their stuff. You telling me he would turn down $100K from Propecia?

  2. The U.S. is 0-22-1 playing in Mexico? Sack up boys.

  3. In related US soccer news, Jozy Altidore will be out on loan to Hull in the EPL this season. They were the worst performing team that didn't get relegated. So hopefully he'll get lots of playing time. He joins a growing list of World cup guys over there, including Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Jonathan Spector and others. We need as many of our guys playing against quality competition in Europe as we can get.

  4. TR - Any chance you can skip out early and watch a bit of the second half?

  6. Chances are about 0% for this guy.

Busy day + work dinner in the office (w/o booze!) = a great big no

  8. Median purchase price of a home purchased in 2Q09 in Saginaw, MI was less than $56 K. Not good times for folks in Saginaw.

  9. Did you see that Pitino knocked the woman up in the UK stength coach's home, and that the woman eventually married the strength coach? Straight gangsta move by Pitino.

  10. Actually he met the woman to give her money for the abortion in the strength coaches home...he knocked her up in the restaurant.

The fact that she eventually married the strength coach (and that she already had 4 kids) is still pretty awesome though.

  11. I stand corrected. Still, it's awkward when someone says "How did you meet?" and you say "Well, my boss brought her over to hammer out the details of paying for her abortion, because he knocked her up in a restaurant. We fell in love immediately and got married 6 months later."

  12. i can't get into the details, because the surprise value of the news i just got is off the charts, but it's safe to say that monday's g:tb post will be the most unlikely and incredible thing ever posted on this humble blog.

  15. Should I have known that there was a Guyana AND a French Guyana? And that Suriname is between them?

In all seriousness, is that pretty well-known? I'm trying to gauge how shitty my geography is these days.

  16. I paid for the whole seat and Rob's got me on the edge. I think GTB just got bought out by Gawker.

  17. thanks for reminding me about this-- now goign to my parents for dinner doesn't sound as boring (they, unlike us, have cable)

  18. You should know about Guyana because that's where Jim Jones gave 900 people permanent roofies. He never would have done it in French Guiana; the French never listen to anyone but themselves.

And I knew a guy from Suriname, but I can't remember his last name.

  19. I did know about Guyana, for precisely those reasons, but I didn't know there was a second, Frenchy version of the country.

Speaking of the French, touche on Suriname...

  20. Wasn't Eddie from Ghana from Guyana? I had no idea that Surinam was in South America. The NJ public school system has a great geography curriculum.

    Fuck and yeah.

  23. What a beautiful setup by Donovan and then a fantastic strike by Davies.

  24. how do we look, mark? can't watch from here.

  25. Another extra-inning win by the Yanks. That's what the Jays get for plunking A-Rod in the 11th inning.

  26. Does anybody else get the CBS College Sports Channel?

It's pretty amazing. Mostly just old basketball and football games.

Right now, its Auburn-Ole Miss (2003). Eli vs Campbell.

    I've really missed Verne Lundquist.

  27. And now its showing the Jarvis Moss game...sweeeeet.

  28. Dennis just informed me Nyjer Morgan was picked off first base to end the Nats game.

With a runner standing on second.

That, my friends, is smart baseball.

  29. Mark, not sure yet if I have that CBS channel, but I did notice yesterday that I know have the NFL Network, free of charge. Comcast, I take back a few of the expletives I've hurled your way over the last decade.

  30. Mark - If I ever strike it rich, Verne Lundquist is going to be reading my menu selections every night.

  32. I think I'd like to have Lundquist and Raftery alternate weeks narrating my life. And yes, I know we've discussed this around here before.

  33. Bronson Arroyo will not win a MacArthur Fellowship any time soon, but he makes some interesting points.

  34. Not sure when everybody started loving Raftery so much, but I find him annoying. He's been announcing in the NYC area for years, and he was never all that good. His approach may be better suited for the NCAA. He was dreadful doing the NBA.

Maybe it's just that I've been hearing his schtick for a couple decades and I possess a grumpiness beyond my years. But he's on the verge of becoming a parody of himself, a la Vitale. I can't wait til he craps his pants one of these days when he excitedly yells "the defense is in the...man-to-man."

    ReplyDelete
  35. Raftery isn't any newer to me than lundquist (which is to say, he isn't at all) but I still love his schtick as well as the random references to his love of the drink. I don't think he and Vitale are all that comparable but maybe it's because I don't live in the northeast and, therefore, am totally fucking clueless about the world or anywhere more than 5 miles from my farm.

Luckily for me the rabbit ears on my picture box still get reception for CBS so I'm not deprived of Lundquist's soothing tones.
