You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry

William & Mary puts its unblemished conference record on the line tonight in Williamsburg against Old Dominion. And when I say unblemished, I refer of course to the bright, shiny 'zero' in the win column. The Tribe was shellacked, 60-44, by Northeastern on Saturday as the Huskies vented Boston's frustration at W&M's New Year's Eve win over Harvard.

ODU, meanwhile, is smarting from a somewhat unexpected loss to Georgia State and likely remembers how the Tribe ended their season in the 2008 CAA Tournament semifinals. The Monarchs are 8-4 overall, 1-1 in conference.

Three games does not a season make, but I'm here to tell you that three corners a bizarre looking hat does, and three-pointers a lot of Tribe making must. A loss tonight and the echoes of the John Leone era may awaken. After which they'd miss a few jump shots, get muscled from underneath the basket, and foul out.

  2. it started as a poorly contrived shakespearean language joke and morphed into a tortured swedish chef/babelfish mashup.

  4. zoltan, you gonna answer my question about charles hamilton?

    ReplyDelete
  5. There's a question? I haven't heard much of his stuff, just Youtube-type posts on blogs. He isn't really my cup of tea. He does a lot of bragging and boasting stuff, but he isn't very clever with his rhymes. He has an album coming out produced by Eminem called Pink Lavalamp, that may be better.

I haven't listened to much new hiphop lately, as most of it sounds like crap. Maybe I'm getting old. I blame the current state of hiphop on Master P. I got Nas' new album but haven't even listened to it yet - I'm working my way through some of Whit's suggestions, The Unicorns' new album, and new/vintage soul.

  6. I haven't listened to much Charles Hamilton either but I'd echo Zoltan's statement based on what I've heard. Where I differ in opinion with him is the whole not listening to new hip-hop stuff.

Yes, a lot of it is crap but that is due in large part to the overwhelming popularity of rap these days. Many artists have become pop stars. Just the same as rock, or any of genre of music that rose to the top of the listening public's consciousness.

There's still plenty of good stuff out there but you're not going to find much of it by listening to major label releases. Try labels like Rhymesayers, Fat Beats, BBE, Hieroglyphics Imperium, ABB, Def Jux, Stones Throw and Gold Dust.

As for some artists who might pique your interest, you might try Little Brother, Black Milk, People Under the Stairs, Jake One, Murs and J-Live. There are plenty of others too. If you end up liking any of these Zoltan (or anybody else) let me know and I'll give you some other names.

  7. thanks, gentlemen.

and the patriots franchised cassel, meaning he'll get around 14m next year. that 'trade brady' idea doesn't sound as crazy now.

  8. Percy Harvin, Mark and all Gator fans - if Mr. Harvin says cutting on his ankle feels "awkward" then guess what, he aint at 90 percent.

  10. Tribe, like NKOTB, are hanging tough. At the half, tied at 23.

Winter break, no students, about 800 fans, tribe shooting 39% from the floor. . . Must be a hell of an environment down at the Kap.

  11. I'm still fairly certain Hellboy Harangody won't be much of a pro, but he and this Notre Dame team are very capable of making a deep March run.

  12. mark - just downloaded a couple of tracks from murs for president. this stuff is good. look at you introducing the old people to the hip hop.

  13. that's not the second half start the tribe needed

  14. However, they are still close to staying on pace to score 46.

  15. Well Rob, I'm glad to have broadened your horizons. Feel free to ask me for other suggestions in the future. If you like Murs then you're likely to enjoy a lot of the other stuff I listen to. I'll be glad to give you specific albums to check out when/if you are so inclined.

Murs is the hardest working man in hip hop. He tours constantly and puts out a record damn near every 6 months. He's also a pretty cool guy. He's friends with some of my friends and I ended up hanging out with him and a few other rappers after a show in Gainesville in 2002. Good times.

And TJ...you ever had a high ankle sprain? Me neither. But from what I hear the fact that Harvin can cut on his ankle means its a lot closer to 90% than most would believe.

  16. Dr. Nick still thinks Harvin plays a series and is done. Well, maybe two series...he doesn't want to look like Tomlinson out there.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Harvin plays the whole game and plays well (at least 100 total yards). Care to make it interesting?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Terrelle Pryor considers himself a pass-first QB? Well, that makes one of us.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I really don't want to bet against Florida in any capacity in this one, but I'll send you that bottle of Jamesons rob owes you when Harvin becomes a ghost...

  20. Um, that field goal was a tad wide. Yikes.

  21. jmu's got the worst set of team haircuts in america. they're like a tribe of sideshow bobs.

  22. You think Bruiser just colors during the timeouts?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Chris Wells is making himself a good bit of money tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  24. RichRod is going to cry himself to sleep tonight watching Pryor run all over the field.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The QB who was the MVP of this year's Army AA game(who is similar to Pryor in style of play) was a Michigan commit and then bailed on Rodriguez and took a shot at him on the way out. I think he's a good enough coach but he's positively screwed if he can't get a good QB to run his system at Michigan.

  26. You know what the best part of that 4th down sack for OSU was? The shot of Colt McCoy's sister looking pissed off. Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thaddeus Gibson is having fun with Colt.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Colt McCoy, you're an idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  29. wow - that's a shitty pick

    ReplyDelete
  30. OSU is getting more pressure on McCoy than I expected and Texas hasn't been able to spread the field and exploit mismatches either.

Part of it is that OSU is playing way more man these days (they played nothing but zone when they lost to UF in 2006). That's allowed them to use different blitzes and jam receivers at the los, but Texas also doesn't have the depth of weapons on offense that UF and LSU have had each of the past two years.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i'd also not discount (once again) the motivational discrepancy. ohio state really, really doesn't want to get embarrassed yet again in the bcs, and texas really, really would rather be playing on thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, I agree. Motivation is a major factor during bowl season.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Texas really better get some points from this drive.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jesus Thaddeus...settle down. He's wearing the red jersey.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Can somebody check and make sure Deacon Jones didn't steal Thaddeus Gibson's jersey?

    ReplyDelete
  36. So the black guy in that Tostitos commercial...he's stoned, yes?

  37. I think Dennis should name his soon-to-be born Dennis 2 "Quan".

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am very impressed by Ohio State's pass rush.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Man, I didn't know Texas started two freshman safeties. Between that and their complete lack of a run game, I kind of wish Florida was playing them instead of OU on Thursday.

    ReplyDelete
  40. TJ...If you get ESPNU, flip over. You'll get to see Chief Kickingstallionsims in action. That's his name, I shit you not.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't get "the U", but it doesn't mean I'm not laughing my ass off right now.

You think he knows Marco Killingsworth?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, all of a sudden this game feels over, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Is Ohio State really this fucking out of shape? Midwesterners are fucking pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yeah, I don't see pass-first QB Terrelle Pryor leading the Buckeyes back.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like Little Brother a lot. The Knux are pretty good too, although the whole album is pretty uneven.

I'm surprised that a program like OSU can't find a better QB. Is their starter hurt?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I guess that answers my question.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Boeckman's a game manager/no mistake QB (kind of Krenzel type) and was the starter last year. Pryor's not as advanced as him as passer (though its not as dramatic as you'd think) but he brings a lot more to the table and OSU is somewhat devoid of playmakers on offense.

I get what you mean, though. Every time I see Pryor drop back to pass I never feel like something good is going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I feel like that wouldn't happen with a non-freshman QB.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And so does Tressel apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Good lord, what happened to Texas' D? Missed tackles galore on that drive.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think TJ may have gone to bed. He's missed a pretty good 4th quarter so far.

    ReplyDelete
  52. How did that happen with a 3-man rush? OSU is choking mightily.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Luckily, I did stay awake for that 4th quarter, but had tossed the blackberry aside for the evening. Why did Mack Brown say his team was behind all game and had to fight back? Weren't they up 10-6 and 17-6 for a long stretch?
