written a while ago. posted on the occasion of a beloved local handyman detained and shipped off to california by ice. he's here legally - he and his wife have been going through the citizenship process for several years. it's all such cruel, inhumane bullshit.

ReplyDeleteEvery incident like this should beg the question: Why is ICE shooting people? In the majority of cases they are pursuing either (I) people who have not committed a crime (illegally remaining in country after legally entering is a civil offense) or (ii) people who have committed the equivalent of shoplifting (illegal entry first offense is a misdemeanor punishable by 6 months in prison). Safe/secure borders? Fine. But some fucking proportionality, please.
